If there's low volume in one AirPod
Check the microphone and speaker mesh on each AirPod. If you see any debris, clean your AirPods using the guidelines in this article, and see if that fixes the issue. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Audio/Visual > Balance, and make sure that the balance is set in the middle.
Like many other earbuds, AirPods can also experience issues over time – such as not being as loud as when you first got them.
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Audio/Visual > Headphone Accommodations > Transparency Mode. Once you've turned on Custom Transparency Mode, try moving the Ambient Noise Reduction slider all the way to your left, as it may reduce the muffled sound.
To turn the volume up or down, place your thumb on the stem of either AirPod, and use your index finger to swipe up or down on the Touch control.
Select Digital Crown, then choose an option. On Mac: Choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click the name of your AirPods Max in the sidebar (you may need to scroll down). On the right, select an option next to “Increase volume by rotating Digital Crown.”
iOS options
You can set a hard volume limit under Settings > Sounds (or Sounds & Haptics) > Headphone Safety. Navigate to the Sounds & Haptics menu to access the Headphones Safety option. Within the Headphones Safety menu, you can reduce loud sounds and limit the volume.
With multiple charges in your case, you get up to 30 hours of listening time,7 or up to 20 hours of talk time. Your AirPods (3rd generation) can get up to 6 hours of listening time (up to 5 hours with Spatial Audio enabled)9 or up to 4 hours of talk time on a single charge.
AirPods Pro and AirPods Max have three noise-control modes: Active Noise Cancellation, Transparency mode, and Off. You can switch between them, depending on how much of your surroundings you want to hear.
Go to Settings > Sounds (or Settings > Sounds & Haptics), and drag the Ringer and Alerts slider back and forth a few times. If you don't hear any sound, or if your speaker button on the Ringer and Alerts slider is dimmed, your speaker might need service.
There could be a variety of reasons your iPhone in-call volume is suddenly low. You might have accidentally toggled the volume rocker while on another call; it's possible there is an obstruction preventing you from hearing the other caller well, or you could have a software or hardware problem.
Make sure the device's headphone jack is firmly connected and not misaligned. Its looseness may result in audio issues. Use a soft cloth to wipe the headphone jack and plug on your headphones and gadgets. The audio quality will suffer if any debris or wax is obstructing the connection.
The buildup of earwax, sweat, dirt, and other grimy substances can not only harm the performance and life span of your AirPods, she says, but it can also cause irritation or an infection in your ear canal. The problem: AirPods have a lot of tough-to-reach spots, and cleaning them the wrong way could damage them.
AirPods Pro and AirPods (3rd generation) aren't designed for use in water sports like swimming, or for showering.
If you've been using the AirPods as your main earbuds for months, it's pretty likely that earwax has built up and clogged the speakers, therefore, causing the volume to seem quieter or the sound quality to sound less powerful.
Go to Settings > Bluetooth, then tap the Info button next to the name of your AirPods. Scroll down to the About section to find the firmware version. To use your Mac to check that your AirPods are up to date, make sure that you have the latest version of macOS.
Check Your Device Settings
For Android users, you can adjust the volume limit in the 'Sound' settings menu. This should allow for music louder playback without having to worry about damaging your ears or blowing out your headphones.
Conflicting Bluetooth Codecs
The reason why AirPods may lack in volume and overall sound quality when used with an Android device is all to do with how information is transmitted over Bluetooth and the different Bluetooth codecs used by Android vs. Apple devices.
Speaker is clogged with dirt
If your phone speaker volume remains low even after turning the volume to the highest, your phone speaker may be clogged. The speaker usually has a net mesh covering it, and if this becomes clogged with dirt and/or oils, it reduced the sound that comes out of the speaker.
Causes of Problems With Android Phone Volume
Your phone is tethered via Bluetooth to another device that plays sound. An app is running in the background that controls the overall volume. Do Not Disturb Mode is active. The speakers or headphones have hardware problems.
