Kenji (who can talk) explains that the trauma of seeing her parents violently killed caused Kimiko to stop speaking at an early age, something she has carried on into her adult life.
Background. At a young age, Kenji, along with his older sister, Kimiko, were abducted by the Shining Light Liberation Army. Their parents were killed and they were forced to join the army. After that, Kimiko stopped talking altogether and she formed a secret sign language with her younger brother to communicate.
Originally referred to simply as "The Female," Kimiko is a literal silent assassin who gained superhuman strength and regenerative powers after being forcibly injected with Compound V by Vought to create super terrorists for their superheroes to fight. She also became mute after her mother was killed.
Given Fukuhara's excitement about the musical number and the fact that she references her a capella background, it's safe to assume that she not only has the chops to sing but that that is indeed her voice in The Boys.
We finally hear Kimiko speak, sing, even! Albeit it's only in a dream sequence, it shows she's slowly overcoming the horrors of her past that left her mute.
Psychological. Brain Damage: Despite his healing factor, Black Noir can still find difficulty in healing brain damage. During his fight with Soldier Boy, he received extreme head trauma which would end up causing a variety of mental problems, including: Amnesia, loss of speech, hallucinations and infantilization.
“The Boys” showrunner Eric Kripke backed up the actor's sentiments, explaining the kiss was more about getting Frenchie and Kimiko to a place where they — and the audience — finally realize what they truly are to each other. “So far, my impression of the audience is that they really want those two to get together.
The Boys encourages its audience not to bother labeling Frenchie and Kimiko. It's a connection unique to them, occupying a middle-ground somewhere between romance, family, and friendship. Nevertheless, "soul mates" feels like the most accurate available description.
In an interview with Variety, Capone explained that while Frenchie and Kimiko are absolutely "soulmates," sometimes we assign ideas to that word that don't always need to be there.
Kimiko: Wolverine/X-23
Kimiko/The Female of the Species is the only superhuman in the Boys. While she doesn't possess any adamantium retractable claws, her feral nature, violent temper, and ability to survive fatal attacks are quite similar to that of Wolverine and X-23.
After being exposed to Compound V, Kimiko was turned into a weapon that was partially immune to harm, as she's able to heal from injuries like no one else on the Boys' Supe-hunting squad.
Kimiko is hit with one of his blasts before he runs off and is badly injured. Come the end of the episode she is bleeding out in the back of a van, unable to heal herself like usual because she has no more Compound V in her body.
4 Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara)
She was experimented on with Compound V, leaving her mute but with extreme power and strength. On top of that, she can heal herself so she's basically indestructible.
In Season 2, Kimiko actually hugs Starlight as a way of thanking her for this noble course of action... even though she was passed out and had no idea of knowing who saved her unless she was told about it later on off-screen.
Coming out of the fantasy sequence, Kimiko leaned in and kissed Frenchie, who didn't seem to know how to respond when they pulled away. But as he was getting coffee, Frenchie smiled to himself, just as Nina's men nabbed him, leaving a happy Kimiko all by herself.
Things might not stay that way for long, though; Kimiko writes to Annie that she needs Compound V, and she wants Annie to get it. “You could get yourself killed!” Annie exclaims, noting how dangerous that would be for both of them.
A teenager about Frenchie's age who joins Miig's group at the beginning of the novel. She's extremely beautiful, with curly brown hair, big eyes, and a big smile—when she's not angry and defensive. Frenchie develops a crush on her immediately, which she reciprocates.

When Frenchie doesn't deliver, she orders for her men to capture him. Nina handcuffs Kimiko and Cherie to chairs as she enters the room with a naked Frenchie. Nina humiliates Frenchie by revealing the origins of different scars on his body. Nina then orders Frenchie to choose who will live between Cherie or Kimiko.
Kimiko attempts to tell Frenchie more about the terrorist however she is unable to, due to her limited knowledge on writing in English, this leaves Frenchie puzzled at why she keeps writing the word "Boy".
Knowing there is no chance to escape, he turns and expresses his love for The Female "from the first." He and The Female are killed in the subsequent explosion. In the television series, Tomer Kapon portrays The Frenchman / Frenchie.
Relationship With Frenchie
In the show, Frenchie seems to see Kimiko as a romantic partner, even trying to kiss her at one point. However, in the comics, it is much more of a family bond with Frenchie almost looking at the Female as his child whom he helps teach.
