Though initially trained as a Jedi by his uncle Luke Skywalker, Ben was seduced to the dark side of the Force by Supreme Leader Snoke, and aspires to be as powerful as his grandfather, the Sith Lord Darth Vader / Anakin Skywalker.
In a misguided attempt to avoid this future evil, Luke tried to use his lightsaber to kill his nephew while he was asleep. Consequently, when Ben woke up to see his uncle armed with his lightsaber, ready to kill him, he felt betrayed and subsequently turned his back on the Jedi.
Supreme Leader Kylo Ren
The son of Han Solo and Leia Organa, Ben Solo was seduced by the dark side of the Force and renamed himself Kylo Ren: leader of the Knights of Ren, champion of the First Order, and apprentice to Supreme Leader Snoke.
In 28 ABY, a confrontation initiated by Skywalker resulted in Solo turning against the Jedi and falling to the dark side. Solo destroyed his master's training temple, killing his fellow students, then fled to join Snoke. He killed and replaced the leader of the Knights of Ren under a new persona, Kylo Ren.
So, when a recently-redeemed Ben Solo climbed up out of the chasm, he found Rey lifeless and quickly decided to sacrifice his life energy so that Rey could live. When she awoke, they kissed, and Ben fell over dead. Then, he faded into the Force, and Rey was left alone.
A master of the Force and a seeker of arcane lore, Snoke seduced young Ben Solo when the Force-sensitive boy desperately needed a teacher. Snoke's influence would prove critical when Luke Skywalker finally agreed to make Ben one of his new Jedi apprentices.
The weapon had a kyber crystal at its heart, and emitted a yellow-colored plasma blade when ignited. The emitter matrix on Rey's weapon featured a rotating gear-like mechanism, which caused the emitter of the lightsaber to open up and allow the plasma blade through.
In a new excerpt, it's revealed that the names of Rey's parents are Dathan and Miramir. Dathan is the dad and Miramir the mother, if you were wondering; it's not always clear with these names from a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

Physically and mentally spent, Rey collapses after defeating Palpatine and dies. Ben then crawls out of the hole, miraculously still alive, to save Rey with his Force healing abilities.
With the significant number of flashbacks in The Last Jedi, it's presumed that we will get more in the next film, connecting the dots as to how Snoke came into contact with the Skywalkers in the first place, along with corrupting Ben Solo.
Powerfully Force-sensitive, Rey trains to be a Jedi under siblings Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa, and faces adversaries such as Kylo Ren, Supreme Leader Snoke and the resurrected Emperor Palpatine—who is revealed to be her grandfather in The Rise of Skywalker.
Initially unknown to Ben, Rey forms a dyad in the Force with him. The dyad is an unbreakable Force-bond that makes them one in the Force, despite being born as two physically separated individuals. Thus, despite not being related by blood, Rey is Ben's other half, making her his "soulmate" or "twin of the Force".
Ben Solo (portrayed by Adam Driver) is the son of Leia Organa and Han Solo, the nephew of Luke Skywalker, the grandson of Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala, and the great-grandson of Shmi Skywalker.

The Last Jedi took the stance that Rey's parents were nobody, and while this may have been true from a certain point of view, The Rise of Skywalker gave us the true answer to Rey's parentage. In the film, we learned that Rey was a Palpatine, and her father was a clone of the infamous Sith Lord.
After years of speculation, Star Wars: The Last Jedi revealed that Rey (Daisy Ridley), the main character of the new trilogy, is not the child of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). In fact, she's the child of “nobody” — per Rey's own words.
Leia Organa's lightsaber was a blue-bladed lightsaber powered by a kyber crystal in the core of the hilt. It was silver and copper in color and featured mother-of-pearl inlays. Organa's weapon was considered a work of art, having an elegant symmetry with silver and gold hues that evoke to her upbringing on Alderaan.
