John Mahoney, who played Frasier's father Martin Crane, died in 2018. Grammer said David Hyde Pierce opted out of returning as Frasier's brother. “David basically decided he wasn't really interested in repeating the performance of Niles,” Grammer said. That's not a bad thing, he said.
According to Kelsey Grammer, David Hyde Pierce decided not to return as Niles on Paramount+'s revival of Frasier because he didn't want to repeat his performance of the character.
"David basically decided he wasn't really interested in repeating the performance of Niles," Grammer says of his onscreen brother. Once Frasier ended, Hyde Pierce went on to have a successful career in theatre, and recently starred opposite Julia Childs in the critically acclaimed HBO Max series Julia.
Paramount+'s reboot of the hit NBC sitcom “Frasier” is set to begin rehearsals in February. But the show will notably be missing a fan-favorite member of the original cast: David Hyde Pierce, who played Frasier's younger brother Niles Crane.
The cast of Frasier were notably close. Grammer calls Pierce the brother he never had. Along with the late John Mahoney, who played their dad, Martin, Pierce is godfather to Leeves's son.
However, she was pregnant earlier in the show. In season 8 the actress got pregnant and it was simply written into the show as a weight gain.
Unlike many other series where characters' pregnancies were written in to accommodate the actress becoming pregnant in real life, this was not the case with Roz. Hers was purely a storyline invention, Peri Gilpin was not pregnant in real life.
John Lithgow turned down the part of Frasier Crane in 'Cheers' when he was going through a “snobbish” phase.
Also like his brother, Niles is highly intelligent. His IQ is 156, well over the Mensa threshold, and much higher than Frasier's (129).
But Grammer notes that Eddie was already recast during the show's run -- Moose played him from 1993 to 2000 before his son Enzo took over until the show ended in 2004.
One member of Frasier's cast received more fan mail than anyone else: Eddie the dog!
David Hyde Pierce studied classical piano before becoming an actor. When you see Niles playing on Frasier, you can see he's really playing!
Paralysis: As a result of Rachel Roth's attack, Niles is paralyzed from the waist down again. Restricted mobility: Due to his spinal injuries and subsequent paralysis, Caulder is restricted to a wheelchair, which hampers his mobility.
Maris makes only two onscreen "appearances": once in the episode "Voyage of the Damned" when her shadow is seen through a shower curtain (she is spoken to but makes no reply), and again in "Rooms with a View", where she appears in Niles' memory, almost completely covered by bandages after surgery.
Jane Leeves (Daphne Moon)
Once the series ended she went on to star in Hot in Cleveland, and currently plays Dr. Kitt Ross in the TV show The Resident. Leeves has two children, Isabella and Finn, with her television exec husband Marshall Coben.
Rosalinda Doyle (born May 5 1963 or 1964) is a fictional character on the American television sitcom Frasier. Roz is the producer of Frasier Crane's Dr.
Maris Crane is Niles Crane's wife for much of the series, though she is never fully seen onscreen (much like Norm Peterson's wife, Vera, on Cheers). She is the most notable of the show's never-seen characters, and often the subject of many jokes. Her family is not revealed on the series.
Pierce stands as the most decorated cast member on the series, winning 4 Emmy awards, 5 Q Awards, 2 TCA awards, 2 SAG awards and 6 American Comedy awards. Grammer also won 4 Emmy Awards, 4 Q awards, 2 Golden Globes, 2 Satellite awards, 2 American Comedy Awards and a SAG award.

NEW YORK - First, the bad news: Mercedes Ruehl has, for the moment, filmed her last guest shot on "Frasier," alas. "It might be fun to go back and do one or two at some point, because I enjoyed it so much," said Ruehl.
By the start of the eighth season, Leeves was pregnant, and the writers incorporated her pregnancy into shows as weight gain due to her character's stress from her relationship with Niles (portrayed by David Hyde Pierce).
Frasier finishes his story just as the plane lands, giving viewers a surprise: Frasier was landing in Chicago, where Charlotte had moved, and not to San Francisco. He says, "Wish me luck," to Anne, then looks out of the plane window as the screen fades to black.
There shouldn't be doubts that Frasier is filmed in front of a live audience.
Lilith is the ex-wife of Dr. Frasier Crane, and the mother and primary caregiver of their son Frederick Crane.
