After a force-push showdown and a lightsaber duel, Count Dooku ran away from the fight against Yoda. That is because Dooku had no plans of killing or capturing Yoda at this point, plus the Sith Lord could not risk being killed or captured before the Clone Wars even began.
Yoda saves them but is forced to let Dooku escape. While he is incredibly strong in the Force, Yoda used the last of his power to keep his two Jedi from dying. The decision to let the Sith Lord escape would ultimately lead to many more deaths throughout the Clone Wars. Yoda had to shoulder that decision for years.
While Dooku was always doomed to fail, his fighting skills were top notch. Dooku is one of the best duelists with a lightsaber and is a master at using an opponent's momentum against them. On the other hand, Yoda is very powerful in the force and can command a battle in his favor.
Jedi Master Yoda never really gave up on his former Padawan Count Dooku, making their relationship one of the more tragic ones in Star Wars. Redemption has long been a key theme in Star Wars, starting with Anakin Skywalker's return from the Dark Side in the Original Trilogy.
He fell under the influence of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine of Naboo, and left the Jedi Order. After learning that Palpatine was secretly the Sith Lord Darth Sidious, Dooku turned to the dark side and became a Dark Lord of the Sith himself, replacing Darth Maul as Sidious's second apprentice.
Dooku voluntarily left the light side behind and became Darth Sidious' dark side disciple, taking the secret name Darth Tyranus and leading the Separatist army.
Yoda held the title of Grand Master of the Jedi Order since the days of the High Republic Era. At some point, Yoda took on a human named Kantam Sy as his Padawan. The two were stationed at the Jedi Temple on the planet Endovar.
During that battle, he learned why Qui-Gon supported and defended Anakin, when he showed how strong his connection to the Force is. Dooku had very little respect for the young Jedi Knight, despite his bravery and unbelievably strong connection to the Force.
Dooku's fall from grace has left Yoda seriously disappointed as he felt Dooku had been lost to the Dark Side and redemption is lost when he had numerous Jedi killed in Geonosis while kickstarting the Clone Wars to boot.
Dooku saw Obi-Wan as a kind of grandson, as Dooku was Qui-Gon's master, and Qui-Gon was Obi-Wan's master. Also, Dooku probably wanted to overthrow Palpatine, and Obi-Wan's personality and the way he fights probably mixed better with Dooku.
Sidious may have given Dooku the title of Darth Tyranus, but because the Jedi Order knew him as Count Dooku, greatly preferring to not indulge his role as a Sith, they continued to call him by that name.
Star Wars: How Mace Windu and Count Dooku Officially Fought for the First Time. Although they never battled in a live-action Star War movie, Jedi Master Windu and Count Dooku crossed lightsaber blades during the Clone Wars.
The theory states Count Dooku wanted to overthrow both the Republic and Palpatine in turn in order to establish something far greater: an aristocratic utopia, with him at the head and at his right hand, of all people, Obi-Wan.
How Count Dooku Planned to Betray Palpatine Before Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. For his short time as a Sith, Count Dooku was well aware of Star Wars' Rule of Two. In fact, he even planned on replacing Palpatine before Order 66.
Grandmaster Yoda himself was capable of summoning force lightning in the form of Emerald Lightning. Galen Marek was an extremely skilled user of this Force power, even after his conversion to the light side, rivaling Darth Sidious.
Yoda confronted Sidious in the heart of the Senate chambers. This erupted into an intense duel between these masters of the Force, a fight that Yoda ultimately lost and was forced to flee. With the Galactic Empire triumphant, Yoda and Obi-Wan were the last of the Jedi.
“But the loss of Count Dooku?”responds Grievous. “His death was a necessary loss. Soon I will have a new apprentice, one far younger and more powerful ,” boasts Sidious. Sidious then instructs the Separatists to move to Mustafar.
Immediately after the execution, Anakin holds Dooku's lightsaber in his hand. But later, when Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Palpatine are captured by General Grievous, the droids only confiscate two lightsabers, Anakin's and Obi-Wan's.

Qui-Gon Jinn was a respected, independent Jedi Master who first located and identified Anakin Skywalker as the Chosen One foretold in the Jedi Prophecy. Born on Coruscant circa 80 BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin), Qui-Gon trained as a Padawan under Jedi Master Count Dooku.
Ahsoka Tano, a Togruta female, was the Padawan learner to Anakin Skywalker and a hero of the Clone Wars. Alongside Anakin, she grew from headstrong student into a mature leader.
Billaba became Windu's Padawan and trained under the Jedi Master in the ways of the Force. During her training, Windu allowed her to study Form VII variant known as Vaapad. She eventually became a Jedi Knight, renowned for her skills with a lightsaber and favored Form III when teaching other Jedi.
