The reason for having it set this way was for Voldemort to incapacitate the would-be thief so he could be interrogated further: "... he would not want to immediately kill the person who reached this island," Dumbledore corrected himself.
According to Dumbledore, the potion cannot be penetrated by hand, vanished, parted, scooped up, siphoned away, transfigured, charmed, or otherwise made to change its nature in any way. It can only be drained away by drinking. As such, this potion is meant for protecting something of extreme importance.
Dumbledore started drinking, and it took three cups of the potion before he was noticeably affected. The first symptom of the potion was pain. Then, much like a dementor, it apparently made the drinker relive his worst memories. Finally, it caused intense thirst.

The big “secret” about the Dumbeldore family that the title promises is actually an explanation of the last film's cliffhanger. Albus confirms to Creedence early on in the film that he is in fact a Dumbledore, quashing any rumor that Grindelwald had lied to the young boy in order to sway him to his movement.
Teddy, Newt's niffler, manages to steal the blood pact vial from Grindelwald at the end of the second film. The vial, contained in an amulet on a necklace string, is the physical manifestation of the blood pact that the two had undertaken in order to prevent them from harming each other.

If Dumbledore received the proper treatment, then yes, he could have survived drinking the potion. It was stated that the potion was not one that would immediately kill the drinker. However, he was already dying due to the curse that was on the ring Horcrux/Resurrection Stone, so he would have eventually died anyway.
Draco Malfoy's mother Narcissa was cold, cunning and devoted to the Dark Lord. But she was also a mother, which meant she was willing to risk everything to make sure her son was safe. He finds out for sure immediately after Nagini's attack on Arthur Weasley. This night is significant in many ways. While Harry sleeps, he enters Nagini's mind.
Many characters die in Harry Potter, but the series' most important deaths are arguably Lily and James Potter, Harry's parents. The couple perishes at Voldemort's hands, with Lily's sacrifice protecting Harry and tying his fate to the Dark Lord's.

After some searching, Harry and Hermione find the ancient grave of one Ignotus Peverell, marked with the sign Grindelwald used, and the grave where Harry's father and mother are buried.
The reason that Lilly's death was a true sacrifice (as in she died though she needn't have) is the fact that Voldemort genuinely would have let her live if she had stepped aside and let him kill Harry. Snape convinced Voldemort to spare Lilly.
He doesn't trust Snape as Dumbledore does, but he believes that he can detect any disloyalty. Moreover, Voldemort regards Snape as highly intelligent and therefore ' as a true Slytherin ' a person whose top priority is to take care of himself.
