The search for the history on trouser cuffs leads to the story of Edward VII, who purportedly pioneered the the trouser turnup, or cuff, in the 1890s. Edward specifically designed the pant cuff to be worn on poor-weather days. The cuffs raised the pant leg and avoided muddying the trouser bottoms during bad weather.
The origin of the Turn-Up is attributed to Edward VII (Prince of Wales). At a time when most roads were really just paths and people still travelled by horse, many turned the ends of their trousers up to avoid getting them muddy.
To conclude, the rule is if your trousers are pleated wear a turn-up and if not don't. The only exception being the chino – a pant that should never be pleated – which shines with or without a cuff.
Turn-ups look their best when worn with no break to the trouser, sitting in a neat horizontal line just resting on the top of the shoe. This is how they were worn traditionally when they were popularised in the 20s, as you can see from the photograph I've chosen, and its by far and away, the cleanest way to wear them.
Basically, it is a folded edge at the hem at the bottom and it looks like a turned-up edge that it's added to the pant leg. Traditionally, a cuff is not cut but simply folded from excess fabric at the bottom hem.
Denim With Turn-Ups
Now though, after several years of pinrolled jeans, menswear's best-dressed are turning to the turn-up en masse, and for good reason. “By turning up the hem of your jeans, you add a completely different shape to your overall look,” says Abraham.
As said, cuffing the jeans wasn't a fashion statement for the Cowboys, it was a necessary thing as their jeans were way too long. They were wearing their jeans day in, day out without washing them so often, so most of these jeans stayed too long for a long time.
For all other jeans, cuffing is a great way to draw attention to your kicks, or sharpen your silhouette down there. It tends to work better with slim-fit jeans, where the leg naturally tapers down towards the ankle.

If you like to wear your pants a little longer or if you don't want to deal with getting them hemmed, you can always rely on rolling your denim up. People have been making their bottoms more adaptable by rolling and cuffing them since pants were first invented. It's the original functional fashion.
Cuffing Your Jeans.
Cuffs on pants are a normal sight these days, and somewhat on jeans. Guys do occasionally cuff or roll their jeans. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. More often, it's a skinny roll when they're a bit long, otherwise, hemming them is the way to go.
Dress trousers should sit at least slightly above your waist, and higher if they are high-waisted. Casual trousers can sit lower if you like that style. The trousers should be comfortable, but still tight enough to keep a tucked-in shirt in place.
Yup! A good roll could highlight how badass your Doc Martin combat boots were. Moreover, the peg was an art and an equalizer. You might have had the cheaper shoes but if your pant leg peg was tight and perfectly folded, you got cred for that.
"Cuffing" is a term based on the idea of getting "handcuffed" or tied down to one partner. It refers to when people get into relationships during the colder months of the year, even though they ordinarily wouldn't be interested in a commitment.

The first style on my list of the top spring denim trends of 2023 is cuffed denim! I love the retro vibes of this style and if you choose a pair with a high waist they are guaranteed to give a flattering silhouette.

Never roll more than twice or you'll look like you have bagels on your legs. Aim for a 1.5″ cuff – The key is making the first roll less than an inch. Make each roll slightly lopsided for a nonchalant look. Up until the 1960s cuffing your jeans was the norm, as they only came in a few lengths – so this is a retro look.
Chinos (and lightweight denim) are prime targets for a relaxed roll or two. The key? Don't let it look too clinical. “A 1in roll two to three times does the trick,” says Mr Lack.
