In the Prisoner of Azkaban, French is in more than one scene portraying The Fat Lady throughout the film. She famously adds a comic twist to the role by making the character more slap-stick and funny. Spriggs was alive to see her character being replaced, but died a few years later in 2008.
When Harry and the other first-year students arrive at the entrance to Gryffindor Tower, Percy addresses the portrait of a very fat lady, in a pink silk dress, to give her the password, "Caput Draconis." Never named, the portrait is called The Fat Lady throughout the rest of the series.
The answer is that Sirius wanted to deflect attention from the real Secret-Keeper. He probably hoped Voldemort would go after him so he could steer attention away from Pettigrew.
His breakin to the Gryffindor common room was the closest Sirius ever got to actually catching and killing Pettigrew/Wormtail/Scabbers until near the very end when he really did catch him. That's why he was standing over Ron's bed holding a knife. Not Harry's bed, Ron's - because it was Ron's pet he was looking for.
Why did they mute Harry's scream? They muted Harry's scream when Sirius died because it was so heartbreaking that Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix) and Emma Watson (Hermione) cried. It was too sad to watch, so they muted the scream.
