Stars and producers Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan spoke to Collider and detailed the impact that COVID-19 protocols had on the show, with Heughan saying: "I know that there were plans to travel to shoot elsewhere, but a large amount of the budget went to the COVID protocols."
Outlander season 7 episodes: How many will there be? Due to pandemic filming issues, Outlander season six was cut from 12 episodes down to eight – the shortest season of Outlander there has ever been.
The cast and crew of Outlander are hard at work on Season 7 as production takes place in Scotland. The Starz hit will see the return of many favorites as the story of Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) continues.
Now with season six over, fans are already looking ahead to a supersized season seven. It's double the number of episodes from season six, which was truncated due to star Caitriona Balfe's pregnancy and pandemic-related scheduling issues. Sophie Skelton (Bree) calls it her favorite season yet.
It's still being filmed in Scotland
Scottish tourism has received a major boost thanks to Outlander fans wanting to visit locations used in filming - and that's set to continue. The cast have been tweeting about filming in Scotland throughout 2022, including at Burntisland's East Dock, Kinloch Rannoch and Culross.
Many Scottish people did in fact settle in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Blowing Rock, North Carolina, in the colonial time period, as Jamie and Claire do in Season 4 of Outlander. But, not everything on the show about colonial life in North Carolina—even geography—was accurate.
The historical drama series Outlander, based on a series of novels by Diana Gabaldon, has become a TV phenomenon and – despite its fictional narrative – much of the story is rooted in historical fact.
It began in the form of a bad haircut, after Malva and housekeeper Mrs Bug cut Claire's hair off to ease the fever. Poor Claire.
A Breath of Snow and Ashes
Henri-Christian is born as the fourth child of Fergus and Marsali. He is a dwarf and some of the residents of Fraser's Ridge believe he is a punishment for his parents' sins. Henri-Christian is placed in a basket and put into a stream by some boys.
Bug cut Claire's hair in an attempt to stop the fever. Unfortunately, time is the only thing that cures the fever. Tom Christie was also sick but he had the same symptoms as her which were unrelated to dysentery.
They're back! Claire (Caitriona Balfe), Jamie (Sam Heughan), and the rest of the Fraser clan are ready for another set of adventures as Starz unveils its first teaser trailer for the highly-anticipated seventh season of Outlander.
Used as Lallybroch (also known as Broch Tuarach), Midhope Castle is a 16th-century tower house located in Abercorn, just west of South Queensferry, on the Hopetoun estate.
Lallybroch – Midhope Castle
The first of the Outlander filming locations is probably the most iconic – Lallybroch, the home of Jamie Fraser. Standing in for Lallybroch is the real life Midhope Castle, just outside of Edinburgh.
Who else is returning to the Outlander season 6 cast? Along with the new arrivals, most of Outlander's main stars will be returning for season six of the show. Of course, Sam Heughan will be back as Jamie Fraser and Caitriona Balfe will return as Claire Randall Fraser.
Jamie Fraser's older sister Jenny Murray will be returning this season, but actress Laura Donnelly will not. Donnelly played Jenny in seasons 1 through 3, while Kristin Atherton will be taking over the role in season 7, TVLine confirms.
As a matter of fact, the series isn't filmed in the U.S. at all. According to TV Insider, Outlander is primarily filmed in Scotland with additional shots taken in Cape Town, South Africa and Prague, Czech Republic. What's more, Fraser's Ridge was actually built in Doune, Scotland and not North Carolina.
Director Brendan Maher told Vulture that while both Menzies and Heughan had stunt doubles for the physically demanding sequence, neither used them much. “We had people for safety, just in case, but the nature of the work is that you want the actors to do as much as they possibly can,” Maher said.
There are times that the show adds in storylines that are completely made up for the series. Then there are times that they seem made up, but they do actually have a basis in the book storyline. During Outlander Season 6, Episode 5, we saw Malva cutting the fingers of the dead Sin Eater off.
Claire shares how Tom says he tried to save Malva's soul by doing things like "beat the wickedness out of her" — as Claire once witnessed. Tom explains that he beat her that time cause he caught Malva trying to cast a love spell with human bones on Jamie.
Some think Jamie's spirit (but not his body) traveled to through time to guide Claire to him; others suggest Jamie had a near-death experience after the Battle of Culloden, and that's why his ghost is 25 when he appears to Frank.
Claire Fraser was born on October 20, 1918.
That would make her 27-and-a-half at the time she and Jamie meet in the books, while Jamie's barely 22. This would make Claire five and a half years older than Jamie.
Sadly, the long ginger curls of Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan) are not real. Heughan wears mostly extensions and wigs to become Jamie Fraser in the series. Throughout the show's six-year history, Jamie has been seen with his hair curled, plaited and even had a fringe in season four.
Even if they don't love Outlander, most Scots recognize that it's far better than Braveheart. So maybe it's about more than just whether it's a “real place” — but about the realness of that place.
Battle of Culloden, also called Battle Of Drummossie, (April 16, 1746), the last battle of the “Forty-five Rebellion,” when the Jacobites, under Charles Edward, the Young Pretender (“Bonnie Prince Charlie”), were defeated by British forces under William Augustus, duke of Cumberland.
Jamie as a character himself is not based on a real person. Diana Gabaldon has often shared that the inspiration for the character came from Doctor Who. One of the Companions in the OG series was called Jamie and would wear a kilt.
