For her part Diana, somewhat naively, continued to see the Queen as a family referee with regard to her separation from Princes Charles. She was frustrated that she had not intervened to end Prince Charles's relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles.
Arbiter said: “Diana and the Queen shared a warm relationship. The Queen found emotional problems difficult – that's her generation.” She also explained that the Queen had asked the press to give Diana her space.
During Diana and Charles's Australia tour – their immensely successful royal tour of Australia and New Zealand in 1983 – the couple appeared to be very much in love.

Hasnat Khan, a Pakistani heart surgeon, and Princess Diana dated for two years, from 1995 to 1997. Diana reportedly described him as the "love of her life" to friends, and introduced him to her sons Prince William and Prince Harry.
The queen was in such disbelief that she mused out loud, "'Someone must have greased the brakes,'" royal biographer Ingrid Seward reported in her 2015 book The Queen's Speech: An Intimate Portrait of the Queen in Her Own Words. What were Princess Diana's last words? The firefighter on the scene of Princess Diana's accident revealed the last words she spoke before her death in an interview with The Independent. According to the firefighter, Xavier Gourmelon, the Princess of Wales asked: “My God, what has happened?”
The duke recalls meeting Camilla, whom he and his brother called “the other woman,” for the first time, and notes that it was far from a pleasant experience for him. He described their introduction as an “injection,” for which he had to brace himself.

He sent his son a letter advising him that it was time to make a decision: propose to Diana or let her go. Charles wanted to do the right thing for “this Country and for my family”. He proposed to Diana at Windsor Castle on 6 February 1981.
If you watch the footage, Princess Margaret was not the only person who didn't bow her head as the coffin passed. There was nothing significant in that. That the one person in the UK who does not need to bow to anyone DID, WAS significant.
