The whole idea was to give picking up the hammer a new downside. It made for a very poignant story, along with an unworthy
Thor Odinson initially suspects Jane might be this new hero. But he eliminates her from his list of suspects because she is going through chemotherapy for breast cancer, which, he reasons, would make her too weak to fight.
Unfortunately, since chemotherapy is essentially a foreign poison to the body, it was purged from her system as well. The reason that the hammer didn't rid Jane of the cancer in her was due to it naturally occurring and it not being an outside ailment afflicted upon her.
In the comic, Jane runs the risk of dying because turning into Thor has the side effect of cleansing her system of the chemotherapy chemicals fighting her cancer, so every time she suits up to save the day, she's actually making her cancer worse and taking one step closer to the grave.
A happy-go-lucky, ABBA-soundtracked montage, the scene features Thor making Mjolnir promise that it will always protect Jane, no matter what — even if it means coming back from the “dead” after being smashed to pieces by his villainous sister Hela.
However, the film also implies that the hammer only sees Jane as worthy because Thor unintentionally revised the rules of Mjölnir, giving it the power to protect her. Captain America didn't need anything special for the hammer to see him as worthy – he's able to wield it without issue in Avengers: Endgame.
One possibility is the simplest one available, which would hinge on the rules put on the hammer by Odin's enchantment, which are “Whoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.” Jane was able to take Thor's place in the comics because she became worthy enough to wield Mjolnir, so if the ...
During the battle, Brigid finally proved herself worthy of Mjölnir and became Thor, something MCU fans might predict happens to Love in live-action.
Originally there was no restriction placed on the hammer for who can use it but after Thor's reckless behavior, Odin Borson placed an enchantment on it. This spell read "Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor." Only those deemed worthy to lift Mjolnir can.
Is Thor still worthy in Thor: Love and Thunder? It is pretty clear that Mjolnir chose Jane, not because Thor was unworthy, but because Thor's oath had instructed it do so. Sadly, the hammer cannot cure Jane's cancer, and can only transform and temporarily empower her.
Gorr's daughter is played by India Rose Hemsworth, the daughter of Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth, and actress Elsa Pataky. Hemsworth has talked about how his children are in the movie, saying "...Taika had his children in there.
What did Jane Foster whisper in Thor's ear? The catchphrase that Jane used out loud earlier in the film was, “eat my hammer”.
Despite her previous prominence in the MCU, Jane canonically broke up with Thor after the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron – a development many external observers attributed to actress Natalie Portman's fractious relationship with Marvel.
Years later, Mjolnir reforged itself for Jane Foster, transforming her into the Mighty Thor. It was able to stave off her stage 4 cancer, but weakened her mortal form's ability to stave the cancer off every time she harnessed the hammer's abilities. After she finally succumbed to her cancer, Thor reclaimed the hammer.
In the first Thor film, the title character was deemed unworthy by his father Odin, who banished his son to Earth until he proved otherwise. The story ultimately ended with the thunder god's self-sacrifice reconfirming his worth, allowing for Thor's first reclamation of Mjolnir.
With his Infinity Formula that had kept him from aging failing him, Fury was severely weakened but able to incapacitate Thor by whispering something in his ear that immediately made him unable to lift Mjolnir; the Odinson rendered unworthy in an instant.
Odin sent the hammer to Earth with Thor so that by the time Thor was worthy, his hammer would be waiting for him. Odin needed to know that Thor was worthy to have his hammer, and he wanted Thor to get his hammer back eventually so that's why he put an enchantment on the hammer and sent it to Midgard.
In the original Norse mythology, there is no specific charm that prevents someone from lifting Mjolnir, but it is said to have been so heavy that only Thor could easily wield it as a weapon, with 4 giants or the combined strength of his two sons Modi and Magni being required to even lift it in some writings.
Odin placed several enchantments upon Mjolnir prior to Thor wielding the hammer: This is reflected in the inscription on the side of Mjolnir, which states: Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor. For almost the entirety of Marvel continuity, this has exclusively been Thor.
But when he reaches that cosmic being, he chooses to use his wish to resurrect his daughter right before he dies. Jane Foster promises Gorr with her own dying breath that Thor will take care of the child, and Thor, now heartbroken and alone, chooses to adopt the child.

She was ultimately resurrected by the cosmic entity Eternity in accordance with Gorr's wish, brought on by Thor's advice. She was left in the care of Thor by Gorr before he died, leading her to become Thor's ward and adoptive daughter.
Powers and Abilities
As Thor's firstborn and strongest child, Magni was a very powerful Aesir, with only his grandfather Odin, father Thor, uncles Týr, Heimdall and Baldur surpassing him.
After all, it's unlikely Mjolnir would just go back to being shattered just because Jane died. The hammer's life — like Jane — got a second chance and, considering the strength it took to bring itself back from destruction, Mjolnir wouldn't go quietly. It's fitting, however, that Thor's hammer doesn't return to him.
Jane Foster becomes Thor in the Marvel comics after one of Odinson's interactions with Nick Fury. In the comics, Jane Foster becomes Thor after Nick Fury whispers something in Odinson's (Thor's) ear that makes him unworthy of the title.
Mysteriously, the broken pieces of Mjolnir, the hammer of the thunder god, transformed her into the Mighty Thor and gifted her the superpowers of Thor, to battle threats internal and external. Wielding Mjolnir herself, she had become a godly protector and a new hero was born!
