Yakult is a cult favorite child-sized yogurt drink that became popular across Asian countries because of its delicious tartness paired with the health benefits. As a sweetened nonfat probiotic drink manufactured in Japan, Yakult carries natural probiotics that support healthy digestion.
Yakult's exclusive probiotic LcS increases the number of beneficial bacteria in your digestive system and makes it difficult for the harmful ones to take over. With over 6.5 billion LcS in each bottle, Yakult has among the highest concentration of probiotics in the market.
The benefits of Yakult are from the live bacteria, which helps in digestive health. It helps in maintaining the health of microorganisms that lives in the human digestive tract. According to research, Koreans tend to have digestive issues, which leads to them being diagnosed with constipation.
Why? One simple answer could be that there is a long culture and tradition of consuming fermented foods, like kimchi. These naturally contain probiotics. Another explanation could be that in general, Koreans have digestive issues that can lead to constipation, according to research.
The primary Yakult benefits come from the probiotics in this drink. Probiotics are live strains of bacteria, also called “healthy bacteria”, that is good for your gastrointestinal (GI) system. The name of the probiotic in Yakult is Lactobacillus casei strain Shirota.
For adults, drinking one or two bottles every day, is recommended. For children, one bottle a day is recommended. For infants over the age of 8 months and toddlers, one bottle a day is recommended.
"A smaller bottle is more hygienic. A larger bottle that is not finished might be kept open, thus a bigger risk of infection with other bacteria," Yakult Malaysia said.
Each product contained billions of Lactobacillus casei strain Shirota bacteria (LcS), discovered by the company founder about 90 years ago. These bacteria can survive through the acids of the stomach and are scientifically proven to reach the gut alive.
The report, published in the Mainichi Shimbun yesterday, said that Yakult is suspected of paying the money over five years through 2000 to a company executive, who is believed to have played the role of a "sokaiya" corporate racketeer, to prevent disruption at its general shareholders' meetings.

It is said to be very high in citric acid, which helps the body to steer clear of lactic acid and associated digestive issues. Many Koreans even drink it to reap its benefits.
According to a Yakult representative (care of this recent viral post), packaging the drink in bigger bottles makes it prone to contamination if we're gonna keep opening and closing the lid.
During the natural fermentation process of Yakult, the bacteria produce lactic acid that makes the drink taste sour.
The name "Yakult" was coined from jahurto, an Esperanto word meaning "yogurt".
The primary difference is that Yakult contains a different probiotic strain than yogurt, that is acid-resistant and is therefore still alive once it reaches the intestines, where it is able to confer its health benefits. And not all brands of yogurt contain live and active probiotic cultures.
Yakult must be refrigerated below 10°C. It should not be frozen or left outside the refrigerator for long.
What is the difference between the red and the blue bottles? Both have the same flavour and quantity of bacteria. Yakult Light (the blue pack) contains the sweeteners maltitol syrup and sucralose, so has less sugar and fewer calories than the original Yakult (The red pack).
Compatibility: The comparisons with Dahi and other Indian versions of probiotics reduces the appeal for Yakult drink. The brand and marketing doesn't favor or showcase compatibility with an Indian diet.
1. This is a fundamental change in packaging design. Yakult's move to remove straws means it will no longer be packaging one additional item alongside its products. In terms of waste generation, that means there are two less items generated from each bottle of Yakut sold (the straw and the plastic packaging around it).
Yakult keeps the digestive system clean by breaking down food, ensuring regular bowel movements, reducing the chances of constipation, and helping to keep the digestive system healthy.
Lactobacillus casei Shirota, which is exclusive to Yakult, was cultured in 1930 by Japanese microbiologist Dr Minoru Shirota.
However, a separate study involving Lactobacillus casei, the probiotic used in Yakult®, showed that people fed the probiotic had much higher levels in their stools than people fed placebo. The researchers concluded that this version of the probiotic survived well in the human gut.
How many bottles of Yakult can I consume a day? Consuming one bottle a day is enough to enjoy the benefits of Yakult as it contains more than 10 billion of the unique probiotic, L. paracasei strain Shirota. Drinking more than one bottle of Yakult a day is also fine, as it will cause no harm.
It's the natural settling of skimmed milk solids as a result of the production process. Just give the bottle a quick shake before opening.
Back to Thailand, the price increase is due to the change in the costs of materials and logistics, but most importantly, to make sure the 'Yakult ladies' are getting the pay they deserve. As many know, Yakult ladies deliver the product right to your doorstep, but they actually don't get any fixed salary.
