Selective mutism is an anxiety disorder where a person is unable to speak in certain social situations, such as with classmates at school or to relatives they do not see very often. It usually starts during childhood and, if left untreated, can persist into adulthood.
It's not uncommon to feel like you have no one to talk to. In fact, everyone feels that way at least once in their life. You don't have to be alone to feel that way either. You could feel alone and isolated at a party, at work, in your home, or even while spending time with friends.
If someone has stopped talking to you, it could mean many things: they might be busy, overwhelmed, depressed, angry at you, or disinterested in continuing a relationship for another reason.
A person who is quiet and does not often talk very much can be described as taciturn. Taciturn implies that a person does not talk because they are thought to be unfriendly. Her father was a shy, taciturn man. If someone uses too few words in a way that seems rude or unfriendly, you can call them abrupt.
Some people who we assume do not talk much, could be struggling to express themselves even if they want to talk. Sometimes, people don't know how to put it across and have the fear of being misinterpreted or misunderstood. So, they decide to keep quiet.
Someone who is taciturn is reserved, not loud and talkative. The word itself refers to the trait of reticence, of seeming aloof and uncommunicative. A taciturn person might be snobby, naturally quiet, or just shy.
From one point of view, not speaking your mind may lead to suppressing emotions, which in itself can have a negative impact on your mental and physical health. This could result in nightmares, anxiety, low self-esteem or even depression. Suppressing emotions can even change the way we think.
They don't stop talking
Since narcissists are constantly seeking approval and favor from their audience, Behary says their constant talking will sound more like a lecture than a conversation. "There's so much showing off and wanting to appear to be very smart, special, knowledgeable, and intuitive," she explains.
While it's totally fine if you and your boo chat on a daily basis, experts say that — in a healthy relationship — you shouldn't feel obligated to chat seven days a week.
The person who is a victim of silence will feel confused, frustrated, and even guilty. It is also likely that will feel alone and misunderstood. Obviously, these feelings do not contribute to improving relationships and resolve conflicts, on the contrary, create a wider gap.
"Many times people who are not particularly fond of you have a hard time making eye contact," Craig said. "These individuals often seem distracted or disconnected while speaking and engaging with you. Their eyes may shift to other things happening around you which indicates a lack of respect and attention."
Is it normal to not talk with people just because you don't have anything to say? It's fine. The more you talk the more likely you'll say something you regret, but sometimes too much silence is annoying too. One good trick to get people talking if you don't have anything, but want to still talk is ask them questions.
But there's nothing wrong with being the quiet listener from time to time. And there's nothing wrong with refusing to participate in the conversation if we don't feel like it, as long as we're not purposefully rude to anyone.

Apologize. If you've heard someone say, “Narcissists never apologize,” they're not exactly right. While many traits of narcissism like entitlement, elitism, and arrogance make it unlikely someone with narcissistic traits will go the apology route, apologies are sometimes used with ulterior motives.
Silence is deemed approval.
If you disapprove and don't say anything it will not make you seem easy going. If the problem persists and you did nothing people may consider it as enabling and think the issue is as much your fault as the person who actually caused the problem. You may destroy trust and create resentment.
