An upturned nose after rhinoplasty is frequently caused by overcorrection. The nasal tip may become under-rotated and droop forward, causing an upturned appearance. The contracture of scar tissue may pull the tip backward too.
Experienced rhinoplasty surgeons will often over rotate the tip on purpose since they plan for it to fall to it's intended position in the post operative healing period. They expect that swelling will make it look higher than it will actually be once healed.
Directly after your rhinoplasty, your nose tip might be over-rotated — the “piggy” look you refer to — but this is a correction your facial plastic surgeon makes so that when the nose heals it drops into a normal position. Without the initial over-rotation, you might end up with a drooping nose.
After rhinoplasty, your tip should drop over the next six weeks as swelling reduces and your incisions contract. However, it can sometimes take up to a year to see the full effect of your nose surgery.
An asymmetrical nose tip after rhinoplasty is perfectly normal. Patients should expect and understand that swelling won't be the same on each side of their nose, thus causing the asymmetry. Other factors such as scar tissue formation, taping, sutures, and splints can also cause uneven nostrils.
Why is my nose crooked after my rhinoplasty? Crookedness or asymmetry to the nose after primary rhinoplasty can be evidence of asymmetrical healing. Postoperative scarring is unpredictable, and scar tissue may form unevenly and cause your nose to appear crooked.
Every patient is different, so recovery times vary, but generally speaking, most patients can expect to look “normal” after about three to four weeks, with a small amount of residual swelling and tenderness lasting about three months — though it is usually only noticeable to the patient themselves.
The release of soft-tissue attachments or weakening/resection of insulting cartilage/bone will result in decreased tip projection. Although the nasal bones provide support for the upper nose, it is the nasal spine, septum, and alar cartilages that are responsible for tip projection.
Although it is difficult, it is extremely important to be patient throughout this process, as the swelling that persists in the tip may cause your nose to appear asymmetrical or bulbous. While this can be frustrating, it is a normal part of the recovery process and the swelling in the tip will continue to dissipate.
Results of Nose Thread Lift Treatment
Usually results last for about 1-2 years. If the treatment is repeated 9 months after the initial treatment, you can expect the result to be even longer lasting. Finally, with stimulation of collagen in the nose, some permanent lifting can be expected.
By 1 month, most of the cheek and lip swelling has resolved, and the nasal tip shape and position are much more natural. Swelling of the tip continues to improve, and is really fading by the 3.5 month photo. Things look even better at 6 months, and will continue to improve or 1-2 years after surgery.
"If you overbuild the nose, it can end up looking lionlike or bulky or give you that avatar feeling. But the avatar look should not be conflated with nonsurgical rhinoplasty." She avoids it by being very precise, meticulous, and conservative in her approach.
Often patients who undergo rhinoplasty in Toronto find that the lips and smile may seem different after a rhinoplasty. This is because sometimes, when extensive work is done, the muscles that are responsible for pulling up the upper lip when you smile, are temporarily weakened.
More invasive surgical procedures such as nose jobs, ear resculpting, as well as face, brow, and eyelid lifts are not necessarily reversible, but can be redone if you're not happy with the results. However, since these are surgeries that require cutting and anesthesia, don't expect a quick fix.
Reach out to the surgeon who performed your rhinoplasty, clearly explaining what you are unhappy with, and ask them what could have caused the issue. If you are confident that your original surgeon can correct where they went wrong, discuss a revision rhinoplasty with them.
This is because during this time the nose is undergoing changes. The major change that is occurring is swelling or oedema is resolving. During surgery, the soft tissue covering of the nose is traumatised. Although this is controlled surgical trauma it is nevertheless trauma.
A nose upturned after rhinoplasty is mostly due to swelling and should resolve as the nose continues to heal. Keeping the head elevated and limiting activities should help resolve the issue. If the nose is still upturned after a full year, you may need to revisit your surgeon for an assessment.
Tip of the Nose Is Too High
Your surgeon may have removed an excessive amount of tissue from your nose tip in an attempt to raise your entire nose. The resulting image is a “pig snout.” You may experience this temporarily as a result of post-surgery swelling. It usually disappears after a few weeks.
It also remains one of the most requested plastic surgery procedures year after year. One of the more common requests in rhinoplasty is the correction of a bulbous tip. This is possibly one of the most obvious and dramatic corrections that can be made, but it is also one of the most difficult changes to achieve.
Can it happen from a previous rhinoplasty? Unfortunately yes a hanging columella can develop after a rhinoplasty procedure. A columella strut, caudal extension graft, plumping graft or shield graft can all push the columella too far downwards.
Bruising under your eyes should be expected with every rhinoplasty. When the nasal bones are narrowed there is almost always a little bleeding underneath the skin. Dark circles under the eyes usually don't appear for at least 24 hours and typically peak within the first 2 days after surgery.
If work was done at the base of your nose or at the bottom of the columella (skin bridge between the nostrils), swelling in the area can affect the lip and cause it to drop a bit temporarily. As the swollen columella heals, which can take a few months, the lip will return to a normal position.
The surgery will chance the shape, projection, appearance, size, or some combination of these elements to achieve the desired result. Your eyes, lips, cheeks, and chin will all remain structurally the same.
It's important to be aware of possible complications while you recover so you can tell your doctor. Warning signs include a fever or more bleeding, drainage from the nose or the incisions, or more pain, swelling or bruising than expected. Call your doctor or seek medical attention if you experience these problems.
