Why does my jewelry stick out? Nostril screws are initially bent to fit your nose and your piercing during the healing process. This means that the jewelry, at first, will be slightly larger in order to accommodate for swelling.
The standard length for most rings is 6-7mm. However, those with slimmer nostrils will probably experience that this length is a bit too much. If that sounds like you, you're likely better off with a short 5mm piercing.
To make a nose ring fit more snugly, have it measured by a piercer. If their recommended ring size still doesn't fit, you may need a custom bend to suit your piercing. Hold up your nose hoop and snip away a tiny part. The amount of metal you cut off depends on how large your nose ring is for you.
Should the Nose Ring Fit Too Snugly? The answer is no. If your nose ring makes you feel uncomfortable, and you can already feel the pressure once you insert the hoop, then it's probably too tight. Another way to know if it's too tight is when you can hardly close the hoop.
When choosing a nose ring, it's ideal to get one that fits close to your nostril but not too much. If you feel pressure on your piercing after inserting the ring - or you have difficulties in closing it - then the diameter you're wearing is probably too small.
The standard nose ring gauge is 18G or 20G, and your stud jewelry will probably be around 1/4” to 5/16” in length. These are standard sizes, and they might vary depending on your anatomy. When you get pierced, your initial jewelry length will be a bit longer in order to accommodate any swelling.
The result of not coming in to have your jewelry downsized is often irritation bumps, swelling and discomfort in the piercing area, or piercings that become crooked over time and attempt to heal in diagonal positions versus their previous perpendicular placement.
Your nose piercing can take 2–4 months to heal enough to be able to change your jewellery. Please keep in mind your piercing has only healed enough for a quick jewellery change over. Your piercing can still close or shrink significantly if you leave jewellery out for a long time.
A round face will need a nose ring that can slim down the face and make it look narrower. Half-beaded nose rings come right over your nostril, usually with a single bead as an embellishment. While a full ring can make your face look wider, a half-beaded ring does the exact opposite.
2-6 weeks after being pierced is the average time window to downsize. Your piercer will let you know what is ideal for your piercing, as everybody is different. Book your appointment for a downsize here. We recommend popping the rough date into your calendar so you don't forget!
After the first 4 weeks, you are allowed to change your piercing and wear a ring or a different stud, but make sure that once you have taken out the old one, you put the new one in asap! At least for the first year the hole is going to start closing up super fast, in a couple of minutes it will already be smaller.
Piercing rejection is not very common, but it does happen. Rejection most common in the first few weeks to months after getting a piercing. So it's important to keep an eye on new piercings.
There is no right or wrong side of the nose to get a piercing, it is up to you. A good idea is to pick your best 'selfie side' of your face whether that be the left or right side!
Symptoms of piercing rejection
more of the jewelry becoming visible on the outside of the piercing. the piercing remaining sore, red, irritated, or dry after the first few days. the jewelry becoming visible under the skin. the piercing hole appearing to be getting larger.
Final Note: You might feel a small amount of irritation after changing a piercing. This is pretty normal since you have been roughing it up a little. It can also happen if you are gauging up a size. Try rinsing your piercing with a saline solution or soak to soothe the irritation.
Studs: A twist nose stud is a good option for a first-time nostril piercing, as it's comfortable, secure, and stays out of the way. These studs have a curved post that fits through the piercing.
There is no right or wrong answer. If you want something a bit more simple and understated, stick with a nose stud. If you want something flashier that catches the eye of people and adds some sass to your look, stick with the nose ring.
Nose piercing is usually done with an 18 gauge (1.02mm) post. After a nose piercing heals, most people switch to a 20 gauge (. 81mm) post because it is thinner and leaves a smaller hole. A post thinner than 20 gauge is not recommended for most nose piercings.
Pain Scale: 5 on a scale of 1-10. The pain scale is 100% subjective and based on clients' feedback. Nostril piercings are said to be a bit more painful than lip or ear lobe piercings, but not as painful as septum piercings. Aftercare: Keep the area clean to avoid infection.
Before changing your nose piercing, make sure it is completely healed. 2-3 months is the standard healing time for a nostril piercing. Once you feel like your piercing is good to go, then you should be okay to change out your jewelry.
2.5 MM is standard stone size and a perfect in between nose size.
If you alter your nose piercing too quickly and too soon, you could be at risk of injuries. A tear, inflammation to the piercing canal, scarring, and difficulties re-inserting jewelry are all possibilities. Make sure that your piercing heals completely before trying to alter it.
Downsizing involves fitting you with a shorter post to help your piercing continue to heal. The cost of downsizing is a $12 jewelry change fee and $15 per post needed.
