Vader's heavy breathing stems from a lung injury he got when he was battling his old Jedi master, Obi-Wan Kenobi. In this battle, Obi Wan left Anakin with severed limbs and severe burns all over his body.
He has chronic asthma. Jokes aside, it is not his breathing that your hear it is his support system working. George Lucas used various items likes pumps, fans and moving metal compartments sounds while building the Darth Vader character.
Breathing. Vader's helmet was the center of his life-support system. It was fitted with an air pump, which was connected to a flat filter system worn on Vader's back. Together, the backpack and the air pump continuously cycled purified air through Vader's ravaged lungs.
After his battle with Obi-Wan on Mustafar, Anakin's vocal cords and lungs were scorched by lava. Due to this, Darth Vader had to wear an iron lung with tubes connected to a voice synthesizer inside his mask. Using this technology, Darth Vader could speak with a deep, synthetic voice.
Apparently, he had borderline personality disorder. As he came of age, Skywalker showed problems with impulsivity, violent outburst, illusions of invincibility and crises of identity, all of which are in line with borderline personality disorder diagnosis, the researchers concluded.
Darth Vader's Suit Embeds Needles In His Skin
Unfortunately, these needles, which transmit neurological data throughout his body and allow him to control his limbs, also cause him constant pain. Between the never-ending itchiness and walking around with needles in his skin, it's no wonder he is so angry.
Lord Vader was able to chew food, which he could consume while in his meditation chamber. While in the chamber, Vader could remove his helmet and consume regular food, which he preferred. Consuming food orally was the way he preferred eating.
The armor's boots featured magnetic clamps, which could magnetically adhere the suit to a metallic surface. He weighed 120 kilograms in his armor, and was 2.03 meters tall in it. The armor also featured a remote to prep Vader's interceptor for combat.
The Force choke is another tool employed by Sith to intimidate and even kill their opponents. Sith usually visualize the ability with a claw-like or crushing hand gesture, and strangle a victim through the power of the dark side. The result is an often painful, slow death.
By far, Skywalker's most infamous use of it was upon learning of the death of his wife, Padmé Amidala, after his transformation into Darth Vader. This caused him to involuntarily unleash a powerful Force scream of shame, rage, and grief, severely damaging the medical chamber and the droids within it.
As Anakin gasped in shock, superheated air, steam, and volcanic gases would burn his mouth and upper airway. If the gases were hot enough, even Vader's lung tissue might suffer thermal damage. Oddly, after the initial shock, Anakin would feel no pain.
His armor could be hacked and controlled by a device. In a turn of events, Darth Vader's right limb holding his dangerous scarlet lightsaber was moving of its own accord toward his neck. This was a dangerous weakness indeed.
Vader was always in dire need of his suit; that said, he needed it to fall asleep (especially his breathing mechanism) if he wanted to take a quick nap. When Vader did sleep, he was awoken soon after by a disturbing series of visions, sounds and pain, most of which including Obi-Wan or Padme.
If he were to take his mask off, the Sith Lord would soon suffocate. So it's the most crucial part of his armor. The only time he can breathe without the need for his mask is when he is in one of his meditation chambers seen in A New Hope.
Purpose. Darth Vader's meditation chamber was a life support pod that allowed the Sith Lord to survive for extended periods without the helmet and mask of his suit. The injuries Vader sustained during his duel against Obi-Wan Kenobi on Mustafar normally made this impossible.
This game features strong violence, involving both human-like and robotic enemies. Characters can be attacked using laser weapons and lightsabers. When attacked, human-like characters groan in pain and fall to the ground.
He just chooses not to change it, because doing so might remove Vader from his private cloister of brooding and meditation. This connection to the Dark Side, and not the physical armor he wears, makes Vader one of the most dangerous threats in the galaxy.
How long can Vader survive without suit? He dies within ten minutes of a near total shutdown of his suit after throwing Lord Sidious down a reactor shaft, and in Episode III, his heart actually stopped during his transformation before his suit's helmet is sealed.
Star Wars Confirms Darth Vader Was ALWAYS Obsolete, Thanks to Palpatine. While Emperor Palpatine seemingly did everything in his power to keep Anakin alive, he still made sure to nerf a major part of Darth Vader.
1/15 Luke Skywalker
Having faced his father once before, Luke was familiar with his tactics and used the force to gain an upper-hand. In Star Wars Canon, only Luke Skywalker can be acknowledged as the one who truly defeated Darth Vader.
Appealing to the hate and conflict within him, Darth Sidious goaded Luke into attacking. Vader defended the Emperor and he and Luke were locked in mortal combat. Luke lost control of his anger, viciously attacking Vader, finally beating him down and chopping off his hand with his lightsaber.
