Count Dooku's red-bladed lightsaber was an elegant weapon befitting a refined man. Its gracefully curved hilt let Dooku slash and lunge with greater precision. Dooku defeated Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker in a lightsaber duel on Geonosis before being bested by Yoda.
In his final bout, Dooku lost his Sith lightsaber to the Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker once he was defeated in a duel aboard the starship Invisible Hand. Skywalker used Dooku's own weapon to behead the Sith Lord and end his life.
Sidious may have given Dooku the title of Darth Tyranus, but because the Jedi Order knew him as Count Dooku, greatly preferring to not indulge his role as a Sith, they continued to call him by that name.
Once a Jedi, Dooku originally followed the traditional route by creating a lightsaber reminiscent of his master's own weapon. But when Dooku turned away from the Jedi order, he constructed a new lightsaber that reflected his newfound fighting style and attraction to the Dark Side of the Force.
Dooku voluntarily left the light side behind and became Darth Sidious' dark side disciple, taking the secret name Darth Tyranus and leading the Separatist army.
Dooku was actually responsible for the crash, but told Grievous that it was the Jedi who had sabotaged the shuttle. This in turn fueled his hatred of the Jedi. As a result of the enhancements, his organic lungs were irritated by some of the implants, resulting in his persistent cough.

Count Dooku, a Force-sensitive Serennian human male, was a Jedi Master who fell to the dark side of the Force and became the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Tyranus during the final years of the Galactic Republic.
Joining the Sith Order
He left the Order, becoming one of the Lost Twenty. He then regained his family's wealth and the title of Count of Serenno. Dooku was then approached by the Sith-Lord, Darth Sidious, who asked for his help. Craving power, Dooku joined him and was given the Sith name, Darth Tyranus.
