The women in Flora's family seem to be named after an aspect from the natural world. Her aunt Rose is named after a flower, her cousin Terra's name means "earth" in Latin, and Flora's own name means "flower" in Latin.
It was revealed by Fate: The Winx Saga creator that Flora is actually Terra's cousin the series. However, many fans were upset over the change due to Flora being coded as Latina in the series, due to being inspired by Jennifer Lopez, and whitewashing an existing character.

Even Terra's crush on Dane in season 1 is placed in a different context, with Terra explaining she thinks she always tends to fall for "s*****, unattainable guys" simply because she knows they won't reciprocate her feelings so nothing will happen.
Terra confesses that she is jealous, but not of Riven, she's jealous of Flora's ability to embrace who she is and what she wants.
If you grew up watching the English dub of the series, then Flora is a princess, but in the original Italian version, she is not. She eventually dates and marries specialist Helia.
