This was primarily because they didn't want viewers to think that Frasier was simply riffing off with what Cheers did with Vera, Norm's (George Wendt) wife, who was often mentioned but never made it on screen. They planned on debuting Maris in episode 3, but the gag became too funny that they stuck with it.
Maris is arrested for the murder of her boyfriend. The press goes wild when they find out that Niles inadvertently loaned her the crossbow that was used as the murder weapon. Maris is arrested for the murder of her boyfriend.
Maris makes only two onscreen "appearances": once in the episode "Voyage of the Damned" when her shadow is seen through a shower curtain (she is spoken to but makes no reply), and again in "Rooms with a View", where she appears in Niles' memory, almost completely covered by bandages after surgery.
Maris is introduced (offscreen) as Niles Crane's first wife, although they divorce later in the series.
Frasier - Season 3 Episode 8: The Last Time I Saw Maris - Metacritic.
Unlike many other series where characters' pregnancies were written in to accommodate the actress becoming pregnant in real life, this was not the case with Roz. Hers was purely a storyline invention, Peri Gilpin was not pregnant in real life.
Maris attempts to reconcile with him by sending him expensive gifts, but Niles remains steadfast in his decision for divorce and Maris responds by shredding their financial settlement document – she turns it into the wrapping paper for her final gift to Niles – a five-cent piece in a jeweler's box along with the poem ' ...
The cast of Frasier were notably close. Grammer calls Pierce the brother he never had. Along with the late John Mahoney, who played their dad, Martin, Pierce is godfather to Leeves's son.
The baby that Niles and Daphne have at the end of the show is not a result of a real life pregnancy of Jane Leeves, the actress who plays Daphne. However, she was pregnant earlier in the show. In season 8 the actress got pregnant and it was simply written into the show as a weight gain.
In the first episode of Season 10, Daphne and Niles marry in a small, private ceremony in Reno, Nevada. The rest of Season 10 and early Season 11 show Daphne and Niles adjusting to their new life as a wedded couple.
John Lithgow turned down the part of Frasier Crane in 'Cheers' when he was going through a “snobbish” phase.
Maris Crane is Niles Crane's wife for much of the series, though she is never fully seen onscreen (much like Norm Peterson's wife, Vera, on Cheers). She is the most notable of the show's never-seen characters, and often the subject of many jokes. Her family is not revealed on the series.
In the final season of Cheers, Lilith has an affair with another man and leaves Frasier. The affair later unravels and Lilith returns, seeking reconciliation with Frasier.
One member of Frasier's cast received more fan mail than anyone else: Eddie the dog!
By the start of the eighth season, Leeves was pregnant, and the writers incorporated her pregnancy into shows as weight gain due to her character's stress from her relationship with Niles (portrayed by David Hyde Pierce).
Frasier finishes his story just as the plane lands, giving viewers a surprise: Frasier was landing in Chicago, where Charlotte had moved, and not to San Francisco.
Page's Duke of Hastings, who married Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) in the first season, would have been a background player at best in the second. Page opted to pursue his burgeoning movie career and (minor spoiler alert) does not appear at all in season 2, which debuts March 25.
Daphne Sported An Actual Baby Bump
So much so that she put on weight and even sported a bulging tummy for the majority of Season 8. In real life, Jane Leeves was pregnant at the time, and Daphne getting fat was written into the show to explain her baby bump.
The pair never got together because Frasier and Roz were fundamentally different people with radically opposite interests. Frasier delighted in the high-society pursuits of opera and great literature, while Roz partook in the less sophisticated pastimes of bars and Bruce Springsteen concerts.
If two actors don't get along well off-camera, it can be difficult to convince audiences that they have a growing attraction on camera. Thankfully, Pierce and Leeves spent time together between takes and outside of work, making their on-camera relationship that much more meaningful and loving.
