He rejected his family's pure-blood elitism and reverence for the Dark Arts. At Hogwarts, rather than be sorted into Slytherin like the rest of his family, Sirius was placed in Gryffindor. In contrast to his home life, Sirius greatly enjoyed life at Hogwarts, where he was inseparable from his best friend, James Potter.
We also meet Tom Riddle, who is, as it turns out, the heir of Slytherin. Present only in spirit, he has all the same been controlling Ginny, and having her act as Slytherin's heir. We also meet the Monster of the Chamber, a basilisk.
Sirius bucked the trend in the Black family by being sorted into Gryffindor as opposed to Slytherin, like the rest of his family. This marked him as being different from the off and him being a Gryffindor – coupled with a significantly more sympathetic disposition – resulted in a rocky relationship with his family.
In Goblet of Fire, Sirius operates mostly offstage. Because Sirius is still on the run from wizarding law (having been falsely convicted of killing Peter Pettigrew thirteen years prior), he can't exactly chat with Harry out in the open.
Therefore, if Harry had gone to live with Sirius while he was still underage, he would not be safe from Voldemort. The miserable years he spent with the Dursleys would have been for nothing and he would be without the protective shield of his mother's blood.
Until the climax of Prisoner of Azkaban, Lupin believed Sirius Black was guilty of murdering 12 Muggles, betraying Lily and James Potter, and killing Peter Pettigrew. He eventually discovered the truth — that Sirius was innocent, and the very much alive Peter was the traitor.
On this, the author commented that "what Harry craves is a father." Rowling has stated that though she likes Sirius, "I do not think he is wholly wonderful." According to her, despite being brave and loyal, Sirius is also reckless, embittered, and "slightly unbalanced by his long stay in Azkaban." When asked if Harry ...
Not knowing they switched secret keepers, he probably believed Sirius did betray the Potters. Plus Sirius being out of the way made it easier for Harry to be sent to the Dursleys with no contact with the Wizarding world, which is integral to the story plot.
Did Dumbledore know that Sirius Black was framed? No, as far as he knew Sirius was the traitor, and Peter had died a hero trying to apprehend him. And Sirius felt so guilty about the fact that he had suggested Peter as Secret Keeper that he didn't deny his guilt, and laughed hysterically when he was arrested.
Moaning Myrtle
Born in the late 1920s to Muggle parents, Myrtle Warren started her Hogwarts life in the early 1940s, where she was sorted into Ravenclaw.
Severus Snape, Horace Slughorn, Andromeda Tonks, Narcissa Malfoy and Regulus Black were all Slytherin heroes in their own way, if you think about it. And Merlin – as in, yes, King Arthur's advisor and the most famous wizard in history – was a Slytherin.
Helga Hufflepuff
The founder of Hufflepuff House is by far the greatest Hufflepuff of all time. Along with Gryffindor, Slytherin, and Ravenclaw, Helga Hufflepuff founded Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Neither of them is Slytherin's heir. Although, as Dumbledore says, Harry's ability to speak Parseltongue is a skill accidentally transferred by Slytherin's actual heir, Voldemort, when he tried to kill Harry as a baby. So perhaps this is one myth with a bit of truth to it.
The Heir of Hufflepuff was none other than Cedric Diggory, who was well on his way to fulfilling the prophecy of the Heir of Hufflepuff when he was tragically murdered by Peter Pettigrew.
Her real parents were Daneel and Dean Novak, Pureblooded wizards. Turns out Daneel was Tom Riddles younger sister, Daneel Riddle. Of course, the Riddles were related to Salzar Slytherin himself, and this made Hermione the living heir of Slytherin. The problem with being a female Slytherin heir, is that they're cursed.
No one knows the truth about Sirius Black yet, not even Severus Snape. At that time, he didn't know that Sirius Black was innocent. At that time, he knew what everyone else thought they knew - that Sirius was a dangerous criminal that was out to get Harry Potter and that was said to be Voldemort's right-hand.
The book had Sirius give Harry the mirror after Christmas break and urged him to use it if Snape was giving him a hard time. Warner Bros. It seems, however, that Harry forgot about the gift altogether, and after Snape gave him a hard time, Harry instead used the Floo Network to contact his godfather.
Snape hears Lupin admit this while hiding under the Invisibility Cloak and also hears Lupin explain that he was not part of Sirius's joke. Snape still thinks Lupin is helping Sirius, however, and attacks Lupin. He then lets slip that Lupin is a werewolf the next morning.
It turns out (naturally) that Sirius was framed, and even after their twelve-year separation he and Lupin remain fiercely devoted to each other. By book 5, the two of them are living together in secret.
Remus John Lupin or Professor Remus Lupin is a friend of James Potter, Sirius Black, Lily Potter and Peter Pettigrew; the son of Lyall Lupin and Hope Howell.

Peter was motivated to change sides when Voldemort seemed to be the clear winner of the war, but he was winning because of the information Peter supplied as a double agent. If he never changed sides, it's possible the Dark Lord would have lost much earlier than he did.
In universe its because he was framed by Pettigrew so people believed he was a death eaters and sold Lily and James out.
As a single werewolf, it is understandable that Remus could not take care of Harry after his parents died. It's also possible he was not informed where Harry was placed and thus couldn't write to him in his early years at the Dursleys.
