Bodies that were damaged or decomposed beyond preservation were buried at sea. In addition, the first Halifax ship to recover bodies, Mackay-Bennett, found so many that her crew ran out of embalming supplies and had to bury many victims at sea as regulations only allowed embalmed bodies to be brought ashore.
The ship eventually picked up 306 bodies, but a shortage of embalming fluid meant 116 were buried at sea.
Of 334 recovered bodies, 116 were buried at sea with most of these being passengers from third class and crew members. Captain Frederick Larnder was forced into making such a decision because his ship and crew were struggling to cope with insufficient space and embalming supplies.
Second-class passengers' bodies were wrapped in canvas and stored separately. In contrast, the bodies of passengers with third-class tickets, and many among the Titanic's crew, were wrapped in canvas, stacked on deck and then buried at sea. Three burial ceremonies were held.

There were enough life jackets to protect the 2,208 passengers and crew on board the RMS Titanic, but not enough lifeboats to save them all. The life jackets were made of hard cork and canvas, proving dangerous for many forced to jump into the water. A lifeboat drill was never held.
Almost all of those who jumped or fell into the sea drowned or died within minutes due to the effects of cold shock and incapacitation. RMS Carpathia arrived about an hour and a half after the sinking and rescued all of the 710 survivors by 09:15 on 15 April, some nine and a half hours after the collision.

The tradition says that the captain should be the last person to leave their ship alive before its sinking, and if they're unable to evacuate the crew and passengers from the ship, the captain will choose not to save himself even if he has an opportunity to do so.
At roughly midnight, Andrews reportedly told Smith the Titanic could last another 60 to 90 minutes. Smith now knew the Titanic was doomed. He also knew that its 20 lifeboats, with a total capacity of 1,178, couldn't begin to accommodate the more than 2,200 passengers and crew members aboard.
As depicted in the 1997 film starring Kate Winslet, Capt Smith later received warnings of icebergs while the liner was en route to New York. But these were not heeded and the ship travelled at speed until it struck an iceberg and sank.
