On 5 May 2023, the Culture Secretary announced the introduction of a Coronation Medal to recognise members of the Armed Forces, frontline emergency service workers and people actively contributing to the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, with an expected total of 400,000 recipients.
Who will receive the 2023 Coronation Medal? Everyone actively contributing and supporting the Coronation on 6 May - including choristers, police officers, military personnel and St John Ambulance personnel - as well as those directly involved in the delivery of the Coronation will receive the medal.
Available to all veterans who served the crown and those who are currently serving members of the Armed Forces, Emergency Services personnel (paid, retained or voluntary), Prison Service, Police Community Support Officers, holders of the Victoria Cross and George Cross and members of the Royal Household.
Everyone actively contributing to and supporting the event will be awarded the medal – this includes police officers, choristers, and ambulance workers, as well as members of the military. The King's Coronation medal is a gift from the nation to commemorate the coronation. It is to be presented to all serving frontline members of the police, fire, emergency services, prison services and armed forces that have completed five full calendar years of service.

Design. The medals are made of nickel silver. The obverse features a crowned effigy of the King and Queen facing left. The reverse shows the Royal Cypher CIIIR surmounted by the Tudor Crown, a laurel wreath and the date of the coronation, 6 May 2023.
