Turn off iCloud
If you sign out of iCloud, iCloud no longer syncs your data or backs up the information on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. To keep your information safe, back up your device from your Mac or PC. To stop using iCloud on your devices, learn how to sign out of iCloud.
If you want to remove photos from iCloud but keep them on your iOS devices, make sure to disable iCloud Photos first. Go to Settings -> Apple ID (your name at the very top) -> iCloud -> Photos -> Toggle off “iCloud Photos”. Now, when you remove photos from iCloud, they will stay on your iPhone.
Naturally, when you turn off iCloud Photos on your Apple device, you won't be able to access the files stored on the cloud storage. However, many people wonder if they will lose access to all photos or if all pictures will be deleted from iCloud storage. The answer is NO!
All your content is erased, and someone else can now activate the device.
When you sign out, any data stored in iCloud will be removed from your device but will remain in iCloud. Before you sign out, you'll be asked if you want to keep a copy of any of this information on your device.
If you delete from either place (iCloud Photos or your iPhone), the syncing feature deletes the photo in the other place. The only way to keep a photo on the iPhone while deleting it from iCloud is to turn off the automatic syncing.
The photos in your camera roll will not be removed, when you sign out of your AppleID. But you have to make sure, that you really have not been storing photos in iCloud. After a system update, iCloud Photos may have become enabled, without you noticing it.
The purpose of iCloud is so you can access your data across all of your Apple devices. However, a large portion of people either don't have another Apple device, or don't need to be storing that much data in the cloud.
Enable iCloud Photos on iPad, Mac, and Apple TV
Once the feature is turned on, photos and videos can be viewed through the Photos app on these respective devices. To use iCloud Photos on an iPad, go to Settings and tap your name. Open iCloud > Photos, then turn on the switch next to iCloud Photos.
When you charge iPhone it will automatically be backed up to iCloud Over your wifi. A simple and sure test is to log on to iCloud.com (via a browser) using the account that is suppose to have the photos. You can select the Photos icon once logged in, and easily view which photos are already in iCloud.
When you delete a photo or video from Photos on iCloud.com, it's also deleted from all your devices that have iCloud Photos turned on. If you change your mind, you have 30 days to recover it before it's permanently deleted.
If your photos were saved on your device, restore from an iCloud Backup. To check, go to Settings > Photos. If iCloud Photos is turned off, your photos are saved on your device. Third-party data recovery apps may be able to retrieve your photos shortly after deletion.
✘ If iCloud Photos are turned off, the photos you take with your device are saved to your device's internal storage. If you deleted such photos, you can restore them only from backup.
This unlinks their device-based Photos libraries from iCloud synchronization among them, and between them and iCloud.com. They go to iCloud.com and delete images. Unintentionally, iCloud Photos is re-enabled on a device.
You can remove backups that you don't need or simply extract just the important data from them. Head to Settings, Apple ID, iCloud, Manage Storage, then click on Backup. You can press Delete Backup and Disable & Delete to confirm, but again, be sure that this is exactly what you intend to delete.
iCloud is the service from Apple that securely stores your photos, files, notes, passwords, and other data in the cloud and keeps it up to date across all your devices, automatically. iCloud also makes it easy to share photos, files, notes, and more with friends and family.
Backups of your devices are often the culprits behind a full iCloud storage space. It's entirely possible you had your old iPhone set to upload backups to the cloud automatically, and then never removed those files.
Make sure you logged out of iCloud under Settings / iCloud. In case your photos are still there, check if iCloud Photos is still enabled (under Settings / Photos). If no, you might be looking at a downloaded set of photos that you might need to delete manually.
