This silver jubilee issue was intended to be the only design for the 1977-dated 50 cents coins produced that year. These coins were struck in abundance, with a mintage of over 25 million pieces.
Like many of the early commemorative 50c coins the Silver Jubilee coins were hoarded away in great numbers, and you can easily buy a nice uncirculated coin for just $4 or $5. A coin from a mint set may fetch a couple of dollars more.
A really interesting error on a 1977 50 cent. It looks like it was struck through an attached cold shut. The smooth surface of the struck through area indicates a cold shut while the fractured edge shows that the cold shut was probably attached. Something quite different to a typical planchet flaw.

These were minted for the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977 and over 37 million were made (37,061,160 to be exact) so they are still quite common. The loose versions have no real value apart from their nominal value of 25p.

The 1965-1969 Kennedy Half Dollar are also the only 40% silver coins of any denomination ever made for circulation. In 1970, uncirculated (non-proof) half dollars were struck only at the Denver mint and were available solely in mint sets.

The double bars are two horizontal bars which appear in the reeds of grass on the reverse design behind the emu's head. The bars were part of the design on the transfer punches that produced the dies for the 50c piece but were ground off of some dies as it was thought they produced die weakness.
