When the Iran-Iraq War broke out in 1980, almost 20,000 Iranian citizens found asylum in Sweden.

Islam began to have a noticeable presence in Sweden with immigration from the Middle East beginning in the 1970s. Swedes visiting Iran should closely follow the current situation in the country and avoid all types of crowds. Foreigners can also be detained and subject to violence if they are in the vicinity of unrest.
Sweden shares a border with Norway in the west, Finland in the northeast and, like an artery, the Öresund Bridge and tunnel connects us physically and culturally to Denmark in the southwest. Our land border with Norway is the longest uninterrupted border in Europe at 1,619km long.
Now, Iran relies on China's membership, and especially Chinese veto power on the Security Council, to protect it from US-led sanctions. China is known for its preference of diplomacy over sanctions. This tradition includes China's (along with Russia's) opposition to UN sanctions against Iran.
Iran and Russia are strategic allies and form an axis in the Caucasus alongside Armenia. Iran and Russia are also military allies in the conflicts in Syria and Iraq and partners in Afghanistan and post-Soviet Central Asia. The Russian Federation is also the chief supplier of arms and weaponry to Iran.
Iran was backed by the Kurdish parties of KDP, and PUK, also the Islamist Kurdish Mujahideen in North Iraq, all organizations in fact rebelling against Iraqi Ba'athist government with Iranian support.

Phil Zuckerman, an associate professor of Sociology at Pitzer College, writes that several academic sources have in recent years placed atheism rates in Sweden between 46% and 85%, with one source reporting that only 17% of respondents self-identified as "atheist".

The latest Census in 2016 recorded 58,112 Iran-born people in Australia, an increase of 68.7 per cent from the 2011 Census.

But the people who are generally known as Persians are of mixed ancestry, and the country has important Turkic and Arab elements in addition to the Kurds, Baloch, Bakhtyārī, Lurs, and other smaller minorities (Armenians, Assyrians, Jews, Brahuis, and others).

LONE ALLY. For the past seven decades, Japan, which gave up the right to wage war after its defeat in World War Two, has relied on the United States for protection. In return for its promise to defend the country, the U.S. gets bases that allow it to maintain a major military presence in East Asia.
