Fatigue, palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath, paleness, sweating, headache, restless legs: these are all symptoms that could indicate a shortage of iron in the body. Iron deficiency, or iron deprivation, is a major cause of anemia.
Someone without anemia and sufficient iron levels will know when they're feeling hot, and have to take a sip of water or find some shade. With iron deficient or anemic individuals, it may not be that simple. In extreme cases, these people may not be able to tell that they're experiencing high temperatures.
If left untreated, iron-deficiency anemia can cause serious health problems. Having too little oxygen in the body can damage organs. With anemia, the heart must work harder to make up for the lack of red blood cells or hemoglobin. This extra work can harm the heart.
Low iron makes it harder for your body to generate, store, and spread heat. That's why several studies have proven that anemia is a major cause of poor thermoregulation and cold stress.
In the long-term, iron deficiency can also cause severe heart problems; talk to your doctor immediately if you notice any irregularities in your heartbeat. Hemoglobin is what makes blood red, which in turn makes your skin flushed.
Transfusions help people with serious anemia quickly increase the number of red blood cells in their blood. Your doctor may recommend this if you have serious complications of anemia.
You may also find that low iron causes weight gain. There are a couple of reasons for this; firstly, your energy levels are low and so your exercise levels reduce; secondly, iron is essential for thyroid function, and an underactive thyroid will lead to weight gain.
Your body needs iron to make hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is an iron-rich protein that gives the red color to blood. It carries oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body. Anemia has three main causes: blood loss, lack of red blood cell production, and high rates of red blood cell destruction.

Fatigue. Tiring easily, and waking up tired even after a good night's sleep, are common and potentially serious symptoms of anemia. What does the headache feel like? The type of headache a person experiences as a result of iron-deficiency anemia can vary. Some people will experience a dull aching sensation throughout their head. They may also feel lightheaded or dizzy.

milk and some dairy products. foods that contain tannins, such as grapes, corn, and sorghum. foods that contain phytates or phytic acid, such as brown rice and whole-grain wheat products. foods that contain oxalic acid, such as peanuts, parsley, and chocolate.
Constant chills and fatigue may mean you are low on iron. “Causes of an iron deficiency can range from poor diet to a serious illness,” says family medicine physician David Brill, DO. “Other factors to consider are your age, gender and medical history.”
