All children have the right to enrol in their designated neighbourhood government school. Students with high needs, who are eligible for the Program for Students with Disabilities (PSD), may also be able to go to a specialist school. Mainstream government and private schools
Many autistic children go to mainstream primary schools. Your child might get additional support at a mainstream school, like specialist teachers, aides, training or resources, if your child meets the eligibility criteria.
There are various educational opportunities for students with autism: a general education classroom, a resource classroom, a special education classroom, or an autism-only setting. Some autistic students thrive in an inclusive class, while others are better in segregated situations. It all depends on the child.
