Serious complications of chronic sinusitis complications are rare, but may include: Vision problems. If your sinus infection spreads to your eye socket, it can cause reduced vision or possibly blindness that can be permanent.
Paranasal sinus disease can cause a condition that mimics demyelinating optic neuritis, with acute optic neuropathy and pain on eye movements, or can cause progressive optic neuropathy resulting from compression.
The results revealed that there was an increase in IOP during the nasal packing but this increase was insignificant (p>0.05).
With the eye's drainage channel completely blocked, eye pressure skyrockets in a very short amount of time. This spike often leads to intense, sudden pain in the eye that can even cause vomiting. The pain can further spread to the head, causing intermittent headaches.

Elevated eye pressure happens as the result of a buildup of fluid that flows throughout the inside of the eye. This fluid also is known as the aqueous humor. It usually drains through a tissue located at the angle where the iris and cornea meet. This tissue also is called the trabecular meshwork.
Surgery is the most common treatment to correct optic nerve compression. At UPMC, the preferred surgical treatment for optic nerve compression is the Endoscopic Endonasal Approach (EEA).
Known as an orbital complication, which is quite common among sinus suffers, the infection travels to the tissue of the back of the eye. This infection then can cause pain in the eye, redness, swelling eyelids, bulging eyes, impaired eye movement and double vision.

Research shows that high eye pressure increases your risk for glaucoma. Experts believe that when the pressure inside your eye gets too high, it can damage the optic nerve and cause vision loss. And studies show that lowering eye pressure can help stop vision loss from glaucoma.
Interocular pressure which is the pressure in your eyes is greater than 22 mm Hg it is considered higher than normal. This can cause ocular hypertension. While ocular hypertension is not an eye disease in itself, it is an indication that you could develop glaucoma (see symptoms).
Normal eye pressure ranges from 12-21 mm Hg, and eye pressure of greater than 21 mm Hg is considered higher than normal. When the IOP is higher than normal but the person does not show signs of glaucoma, this is referred to as ocular hypertension. High eye pressure alone does not cause glaucoma.
In general, pressures of 20-30 mm Hg usually cause damage over several years, but pressures of 40-50 mm Hg can cause rapid visual loss and also precipitate retinovascular occlusion.
Stress can interfere with your sleep, skin and digestion. But did you also know it can affect your eyes? Your eyes undergo changes such as increased intraocular pressure (IOP) when you're stressed or anxious, whether for a short time or on a regular basis.
Reading induces a significant increase in IOP, which was more evident in a supine versus sitting position. No differences in IOP increase were found between men and women. Greater levels of discomfort in the back and neck were reported when reading in a seated position.
Studies have shown that peak IOP occurs at night or in the early morning hours in two-thirds of glaucoma patients. IOP has been shown to increase by 3 to 4mm Hg when a patient is lying flat face upward.
“Pressure is highest typically in the morning, when you're just waking up, and lowest in the afternoon,” says Johnson. “So if you have a 4:00 pm. appointment at the doctor's office, that particular pressure may be the lowest pressure you'll have that day.”
The sinuses are air-filled spaces in the skull. They are located behind the forehead, nasal bones, cheeks, and eyes.
Place the tips of both index fingers on the closed upper eyelid. Keeping both fingertips in contact with the upper eyelid, apply gentle pressure through the closed eyelid, first gently pressing on the eye with the right index finger, then with the left, and then with the right again (Figure 1). Repeat on the other eye.
