Rarely, immediately after you apply the cream you might experience: ▪ Mild burning or irritation. If this is intolerable, stop treatment and see your doctor as soon as possible. Very rarely, Canesten Thrush Cream may cause side effects which can be very similar to the symptoms of the infection.
After you apply the cream you might experience: • Itching, rash, blisters, burning, discomfort, swelling, redness, irritation, pins and needles, or peeling of skin. If you experience any of the above effects, tell your doctor or pharmacist immediately.
Clotrimazole works by killing the yeast that causes the fungal infection. It usually treats thrush within 7 days but it's best to treat the infection for at least 2 weeks to stop it coming back. The most common side effect is an itching or burning feeling in the area being treated.
If you use too much external clotrimazole cream or use it more often than you need to, it may make your skin irritated, or red. Use less cream the next time if this happens.
After the application of CANESTEN® Plus Antifungal Anti- Inflammatory Cream a slight stinging sensation may occasionally be noticed. This will most likely disappear after several applications. Skin reactions (such as hypersensitivity reactions e.g. burning, stinging, swelling or redness) can occasionally occur.
If you have any of the following symptoms do not use Canesten Thrush Duo and see your doctor as soon as possible: Irregular vaginal bleeding. Abnormal vaginal bleeding or a blood-stained discharge. Ulcers, blisters or sores of the vagina or vulva.
Do not use Canesten Thrush Pessary: If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to clotrimazole or any of the other ingredients of Canesten Thrush Pessary (see Section 6. Further Information). During your period as it may be less effective.
The symptoms of the skin infection, such as itching or soreness, should improve after using Canesten Athlete's foot creams. If the symptoms do not improve, please consult your doctor.
If you don't really have a yeast infection, antifungals won't help you get better. They can actually prolong the real problem, because while you'll think you're treating the issue, the real cause will continue to develop.
Clotrimazole cream, spray or solution can sometimes cause irritated or red skin, or pain or a burning or stinging feeling when you put it on. If you get these side effects and they do not go away, talk to your pharmacist or doctor.
Burning, stinging, swelling, irritation, redness, pimple-like bumps, tenderness, or flaking of the treated skin may occur. If any of these effects last or get worse, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
A mild increase in vaginal burning, itching, irritation or headache may occur when the product is used.
Why does yeast infection ointment burn? A burning sensation in the vagina is common when you have a yeast infection—and unfortunately, it's also a common side effect of yeast infection treatment, especially with conventional products.
You'll usually need antifungal medicine to get rid of thrush. This can be a tablet you take, a tablet you insert into your vagina (pessary) or a cream to relieve the irritation. Thrush should clear up within 7 to 14 days of starting treatment. You do not need to treat partners unless they have symptoms.
External symptoms such as itching and discharge should get better within 3 days. Talk to a doctor if your symptoms do not get better or get worse. If internal symptoms such as pain or soreness do not go away within 7 days, talk to a doctor. You may need a longer course of treatment or a stronger medicine.
The treatment is easy to use at home and irritating thrush symptoms should begin to disappear within 3 days. Canesten® helps you feel comfortable again so you can get on with your life.
Thrush can be confused with other conditions that cause itching and redness with or without discharge. These other conditions include herpes infections and bacterial infections. Your doctor will examine you and take a swab or do further tests to confirm the diagnosis.
If you are allergic, a reaction will occur soon after you have used the medicine. If you experience an allergic reaction or the redness, burning, pain, itching or swelling get worse, stop using this product and tell your doctor straight away or contact the Accident and Emergency Department of your nearest hospital.
You can use Canesten® thrush treatments either day or night. However, vaginal treatments are best applied before you go to bed, as you can expect some leakage with the product use. For best results, lie down as soon as possible after inserting the vaginal products. This will reduce leakage.
Canesten Cream should be applied thinly and evenly to the affected areas two or three times daily and rubbed in gently. A strip of cream (1/2 cm long) is enough to treat an area of about the size of the hand. The duration of the treatment depends upon the type of infection.
Canesten Thrush Oral Capsule is a convenient, effective single dose treatment for vaginal and penile thrush.

Thrush should clear up within a week after one dose of medicine and/ or using the cream daily. Do not be tempted to use external cream only. It will help soothe symptoms of vaginal yeast infection, but it won't get rid of the cause of thrush.
