While everyone's tolerance is different, most individuals with IBS are able to handle small amounts of low-lactose dairy products. This means that the best cheese for IBS is low lactose cheese.

Heavy cream, cheese, ice cream, and other dairy products contain lactose, a sugar in cow's milk. Too much lactose can be difficult for your intestines to digest. High amounts of lactose can often lead to diarrhea and other IBS symptoms.
Aged cheeses include Cheddar, Camembert, Cheshire, Pecorino Style, Swiss, Brie, Blue Cheese, Havarti, or Parmesan. These are low FODMAP cheese options and they are normally well tolerated by people with lactose intolerance.
But you may find it helpful to eat lean meats, eggs, fish that is rich with omega-3 fatty acids, nuts, homemade bone broth, carrots, bananas, and other low-FODMAP fruits and vegetables. Fermented foods are also good for your gut flora.
You can also feel good knowing potatoes are safe to put on your IBS diet plan. Potatoes have always been a stomach soother for me when I'm having an “off” day.
Foods To Avoid With IBS
High-fiber products, found in cereals, grains, pastas and processed foods. Gas-producing foods, like beans, lentils, carbonated beverages and cruciferous vegetables such as cauliflower. Gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, rye and many processed foods.
Fresh fish (Cod, Haddock and/or Plaice; Salmon, Trout and/or Tuna) is without doubt among the foods good for IBS in most cases, as is canned tuna. So-called 'safe' herbs to flavour your dishes with include: Basil, Chili and Coriander. Ginger, Lemongrass and Marjoram.
Research confirms white flour is better for IBS
Since gut bacteria can play a substantial role in intestinal health, eating more white bread can be assumed to have some protective effects for those with IBS.
Eating yogurt can help alleviate irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms since yogurt has probiotics, or “good bacteria,” which helps put healthy bacteria back in your gut.
Greasy Food
If you have a sensitive digestive system, you should avoid fatty meats and fried food. For example: Pizza.
However, peanut butter and jelly on white may not sit well with people who have IBS, so sandwiches need some new ingredients. Bread such as sourdough and French are delicious alternatives to plain white bread. Skip the lunch meat, cheese, and mayonnaise and try soy, tofu, or seafood alternatives.
Plain white rice is great on flare-up days
It doesn't cause any bloating. It helps regulate any diarrhea I might have (especially when overcooked). And most of all, I know that it will not trigger any additional IBS symptoms.
Lettuce is a low FODMAP vegetable that's also very low in fiber. As such, it's unlikely to trigger or worsen your IBS symptoms. In fact, it may even ease your symptoms due to its low FODMAP content. That said, trigger foods are highly individual and may affect certain people differently.
Insoluble fiber may make IBS symptoms worse.
Wheat bran. Nuts. Beans. Vegetables like cauliflower, green beans, and potatoes.
This is because chocolate, particularly milk chocolate, contains a lot of sugar, including lactose, milk proteins and fat – all of which can cause symptoms in susceptible persons. This is particularly true in persons who are lactose intolerant or who have conditions like IBS.
Modified rye bread may ease the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) according to a study, which recommends this food as a way to increase fibre intake for patients with this condition.
Lactase breaks down the FODMAP, lactose, to negligible amounts, making lactose-free milk a low FODMAP option. The suggested serving size is 1 cup or 250 mL. Potatoes are a FODMAP-free food with or without the skin. Keeping the skin adds a little extra low FODMAP fiber.
Anti-inflammatory foods such as turmeric and ginger can help bring down inflammation in the digestive tract, thereby easing IBS symptoms. I recommend an anti-inflammatory diet not only to address immediate symptoms but for long-term health as well.
Eat fermented foods.
Include plenty of probiotic-rich foods like kimchi, kombucha, miso, or sauerkraut. Sometimes, you can also eat yogurt if you are not allergic to dairy. Try unsweetened sheep or goat yogurt. These are all foods that help your gut flora get and stay healthy.
