After 48 hours, most people will be able to begin eating soft solid foods like purees, mashed potatoes, and soft scrambled eggs.
Milk, Cakes, Avocado, Soft Fruits, Icecream, Soups, Mashed potato, and few other soft foods can be eaten after tooth extraction.
It's important to remember that good nutrition is one of the keys to helping promote fast healing. Make sure that you eat soft foods such as scrambled eggs, soft weetbix, yoghurt, baby food or a smoothie.
We typically recommend that patients avoid hard or crunchy foods like nuts, chips, toast, cereal or anything else that could possibly be abrasive. It is also important to avoid anything that requires you to bite down aggressively or to chew for too long.
Sandwiches, chips, and orange juice should all be avoided after your wisdom tooth removal, dental implant surgery, orthognathic surgery etc. Too much chewing can possibly re-open the sensitive areas of your mouth, and can cause bleeding or even infection.
One of the healthiest meals you can eat, usually for breakfast, porridge is a great option. It's easy to make, soft enough to eat, flavourful if you add some jam, sugar or syrup and it's very nutritious. Just make sure you cook it until it's really soft for the easiest consumption.
On day 3 after surgery, eat soft foods that do not require much chewing, such as macaroni and cheese, cooked noodles, soft-boiled /scrambled/ poached eggs and soft sandwiches. Avoid tough or crunchy foods, such as pizza, rice, popcorn, and hamburger. Avoid spicy and acidic foods.
"Scrambled eggs are an excellent source of protein and provide 13 essential nutrients. These nutrients assist the body during recovery from illness or surgery," Upton says. For a flavor and fat boost, fold in some cheese, Berg recommends.
Soft bread and grains are excellent after surgery, including white bread, wheat bread, flatbread, and flour tortilla. Grains like oatmeal, cream of wheat, rice, pasta noodles, and saltines are also suitable foods.
To ensure proper healing on your tooth extraction site, avoid the following foods: crunchy, spicy, hard and chewy candy, acidic foods and drinks, alcohol and smoking. These foods can irritate and prolongue the tooth extraction healing socket.
Within the first 24 hours after tooth removal surgery, you should avoid consuming anything that involves chewing. Try to limit yourself to liquids exclusively. If they don't fill you up and you want to consume solid food, go for soft meals that don't need much chewing, like pudding or oatmeal.
Yogurt. Yogurt is a great snack to eat after your wisdom teeth are removed. For one thing, it's completely soft, so you won't have to chew at all. For another, it's a good source of protein and other nutrients that you'll need to help recover after surgery.
Dairy contains proteins that can encourage the growth of bacteria and increase the risk of infection. This is because dairy provides an ideal environment for bacteria to thrive, which can lead to swelling and discomfort in the gums and surrounding area.

Tuna Salad. Egg Salad. Thinly Sliced Deli Meat. & Cheese. Creamy Peanut Butter & Jelly.
While every patient heals at a slightly different pace, most people can begin drinking small amounts of coffee around 5 days after an extraction. If all goes well, within two weeks any swelling should subside and your mouth should be mostly healed. At that point, you can return to drinking your normal amount of coffee.
Semi-Soft Foods
These may include scrambled eggs, pasta dishes (without chunks), grilled cheese sandwiches (without crusts), tuna salad sandwiches (without complex pieces of celery or onions), and soups with tiny chips of vegetables (strained if necessary).
The second day following surgery is usually the worst day for swelling. If your post-operative pain or swelling worsens or unusual symptoms occur call my office for instructions. There will be a cavity where the tooth was removed. The cavity will gradually, over the next month, fill in with the new tissue.
Bananas. Many oral surgery specialists recommend eating bananas after the surgery. The soft texture is easy to chew and doesn't irritate your gums. Bananas are loaded with minerals and vitamins, including folate, manganese, vitamin B6, and potassium, which are good for your oral health.
