If you have children who are Australia Citizens or Permanent Residents and you meet the age and balance of family requirements, you may be eligible to apply for a parent visa to live in Australia. Having a child who is an Australian citizen provides a pathway to apply for a Contributory Parent 143 Visa. This is a visa that allows the holder to remain in Australia permanently, to work and study here, and to sponsor eligible relatives to come to Australia.
The long-term Subclass 870 Sponsored Parent (Temporary) visa can be a great long-term temporary option, which enables a child to sponsor their parent for either a three or five year stay in Australia, with the option to later reapply (for a maximum 10-year cumulative stay period).
Parent Visa
To apply for this visa, the child (Australian citizen or permanent resident) must sponsor their parents' application. A parent visa is a good option for parents that are looking to stay for up to 3-5 years but are not interested in permanently migrating to Australia.
The Department of Home Affairs allows most students to bring their immediate family members to Australia. Immediate family members are called dependents, and may include your spouse (or de facto partner) and children under the age of 18.
This fee is $4,355 for the main applicant and $1,465 for the dependent partner. The contibutory fee of $43,600 per applicant must be paid prior to the granting of the visa.
The first option is the Tourist visa – Subclass 600. There is a stream of tourist visas that allows parents of Australian residents or citizens to stay longer in the country, for up to one year on every entry.
Your parents will need to apply for and be granted a Resident Return Visa (RRV) so that your parents can re-enter Australia as a permanent resident. Your parents might also want to consider Australian citizenship. If your parents become Australian citizens then they do not require a visa to enter Australia.
To live as a permanent resident of Australia, you can apply for Contributory Parent Visa (Subclass 143) within 24 months of your stay in Australia. It takes 3.5 to 4 years to process this visa.

The requirements of Australian Parent visas

Children born in Australia, with a birth certificate issued in Australia, are not automatically Australian citizens or Australian permanent residents. To be an Australian citizen, at least one parent must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia at the time of the child's birth.

You can apply for citizenship after living in Australia for four years with an Australia PR visa.
Regarding age, the applicant must be between 18 and 55 years of age, however, those older than 55 may still be eligible if it can be established that their skill and contribution will be of exceptional benefit to the Australian community.

To sponsor a relative to Australia, you must be a settled Australian citizen or permanent resident. You must also be at least 18 years old. As a sponsor, you must also have the ability to pay a security bond if asked by the Department. The amount for the security bond is discretionary.
