According to tattoo professionals, it's recommended to wait 2-3 days before vigorous exercising. After that, it's a good idea to start slow, with light workouts until the new tattoo is fully healed. Working out too soon after getting a new tattoo can lead to infection and swelling of the tattoo.
After getting tattooed, always wait at least 48 hours before exercising to prevent issues related to skin pulling, sweat, and bacteria exposure.
Since you're only human, some degree of sweating is to be expected. However, excessive sweating is not good during the first weeks after getting a new tattoo. As such, it's best to avoid activities that might make you too sweaty, at least for a couple of weeks.
Drunken behaviour could ruin your new tattoo
You need to be aware of keeping your tattoo clean and dry while it is fresh, so a night out might not be the best option. It's generally recommended that you wait at least 48 hours after your new tattoo before you start drinking alcohol again.
Avoid sleeping directly on your tattoo and using any slept-on sheets. Previously-used bath or face towels should also never touch or go near a fresh tattoo. Don't drink any alcohol for at least 48-72 after (and before) getting a tattoo. Alcohol thins your blood, which can lead to excess bleeding.
If you want your tattoo to heal, the best thing to do is not drink 24 hours before and 24 hours after getting tattooed. The recommended waiting time is 48 hours after, but sometimes you catch yourself needing a glass of wine to unwind, so 24 hours should be efficient.
Make sure to keep the tattoo covered (no need to re-wrap, your clothing should be fine), and wipe down any equipment you used during your workout. Sweat won't hurt your new tattoo, so don't worry about that. Just shower up when you are done with your workout. Proper tattoo aftercare is a must even if you don't workout.
After a week, the redness and swelling should have subsided. At this point, the skin should begin to scab and flake. The itchiness may persist, but the tattoo should gradually appear more vibrant as it continues to heal.
DO NOT sweat excessively- this can push ink out and weaken the adhesive- sweat will collect under the Saniderm and smell bad and clog your sweat glands resulting in bumpy skin, raised scarred tissue, color loss, and possible infection.
However, most professional tattoo artists suggest that you wait a minimum of 48-72 hours before resuming vigorous activity and heavy sweating. This would include exercises such as running, strenuous indoor cycling workouts, high-intensity resistance training, swimming, vigorous elliptical or stair climber use, etc.
As for gym attire, just cover your tattoo with loose fitting clothing for the first week to prevent any type of direct contact with anyone or anything, like laying on a bench.
We advise not to start beating your personal records at the gym the day before or the day of the tattoo appointment. Your body needs to be fully rested, and ready for the new tattoo. It would also be a lot easier for you to sit in the chair if your muscles aren t sore from the workout.
Don't worry, this is completely natural. It happens because the old skin, damaged during the tattooing process, forms a thin layer over your tattoo and masks its true appearance. In time this old skin will naturally exfoliate itself, revealing your tattoo underneath in all its vibrant glory.
You may also see redness, swelling, and some mild bleeding. DAYS 3-14 (or until healed): After the first 2-3 days, your tattoo should begin to feel dry and tight.
Can You Drink Caffeine After Getting a Tattoo? Unfortunately, the same applies to after getting tatted. During the healing period, your body is reliant on the blood to clot to help with skin repair. Since caffeine increases blood pressure, you should refrain from caffeine until your tattoo has healed.
Avoid going to the swimming pool, gym and don't engage yourself in any intense sporting activities. All of them can be harmful for your tattoo. Tattoo artist's advice their clients to avoid such activities for at least 2 - 4 weeks. This is the time an average tattoo mostly takes to heal and recover properly.
It is advisable that you refrain from drinking for at least 48-72 hours after getting a tattoo. It is normal for plasma and blood to ooze 48 hours after getting a tattoo. However, alcohol consumption will increase the bleeding rate due to blood thinning.
If you're serious about getting an amazing tattoo, then we'd advise not to drink any alcohol for at least 24 hours beforehand. Then afterwards we'd ask that you avoid it for 48 hours more.
