Superfecundation twins: When a woman has intercourse with two different men in a short period of time while ovulating, it's possible for both men to impregnate her separately. In this case, two different sperm impregnate two different eggs.
The biological phenomenon of giving birth to twins with two different biological fathers is called heteropaternal superfecundation. In a rare and surprising event, a 19-year-old Brazilian woman gave birth to twins who belong to two different biological fathers.
Superfecundation is the fertilization of two or more ova from the same cycle by sperm from separate acts of sexual intercourse, which can lead to twin babies from two separate biological fathers. The term superfecundation is derived from fecund, meaning the ability to produce offspring.
How common is superfetation? Superfetation is so rare in humans that there are only about 10 confirmed cases. They're so unique that when they happen, they often make headlines. The chance that you'll be affected by superfetation is close to zero.
Your partner may be nervous that their semen will reach and hurt the baby during penetrative vaginal sex, but this isn't possible: Your baby is protected by the placenta, the amniotic sac, and the mucus plug. Most semen and sperm that enter a woman's body during sex is discharged the same way it went in.

This means the baby has three genetic parents: the father who supplied the sperm, the mother who supplied both womb and the egg nucleus, and an anonymous donor who supplied healthy mitochondria. Of these, the mitochondrial DNA is by far the smallest contribution.
