Adults with ADHD can struggle with shyness. While shyness goes against the stereotypical image of a hyperactive, life-of-the-party type, ADHD is much more diverse than that image. Shyness has nothing to do with being an extrovert or introvert, or if you are hyperactive or inattentive.
Absolutely. People with ADHD have a diverse range of presentations and personality traits. This 2017 study of children with ADHD found that 58% of participants were introverted.
Individuals with ADHD often experience social difficulties, social rejection, and interpersonal relationship problems as a result of their inattention, impulsivity and hyperactivity.
When children with ADHD enter a social setting, they may have a hard time sharing, taking turns, listening, and picking up on social cues. They often become bored, distracted, or check-out of the conversation. Students with ADHD may have a hard time managing their emotions when interacting with their peers.
ADHD is characterised by an inability to pay attention or focus for any length of time, and as well as hyperactivity. Less known is that a child with ADHD can often not be hyperactive! This means the outward signs of ADHD may not always be present, making assessment even more of a difficulty.
Many quiet girls with ADHD seem to be listening to their teachers, while their minds are a thousand miles away. These girls often seem anxious about school. They are forgetful and disorganized in completing their school work and become very worried as assignments come due.
People with ADHD are more likely to have low self-esteem in general, but having undiagnosed ADHD can make you even more vulnerable. A 2020 study compared adults who had an ADHD diagnosis with adults who reported ADHD symptoms but had no diagnosis.
As we've discussed, unfortunately, many people with ADHD tend to have a lack of empathy. This can be addressed, though, through identifying and communicating about each other's feelings. If you see a disconnect between ADHD and empathy in your child or in your spouse, don't give up hope.
Everyone has negative thoughts from time to time, but most children, teens, and adults with ADHD engage in negative thinking more frequently. These thoughts come from other people's mistaken judgments (“Why are you so lazy?”) and from themselves (“I can't do anything right!”).
ADHD, especially if not managed well, can lead to constant frustration and self-criticism. The cumulative impact of these frustrations, criticisms, real and perceived failures, self-blaming, and guilt turn self-esteem into rubble.

Adults with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD or ADD) lead anxious lives. The nature of ADHD often makes day-to-day life stressful, creating situations and environments fraught with uncertainty – anxiety's primary fuel.
For people with inattentive ADHD, repetitive tasks become hyper-boring and mentally exhausting to stick with. Yet with the tasks you are interested in, you can barely notice the outside world for eight hours straight. You also have a rubbish working memory.

Girls are also less likely to be diagnosed earlier because they often display more symptoms of anxiety. Medical providers may only treat a female patient's anxiety or depression without evaluating for ADHD. Hormones, which affect the symptoms of both ADHD and anxiety, can complicate things.
People with ADHD may have trouble completing thoughts when talking or finishing magazine articles and books. Failing to pay attention to details or constantly making careless mistakes. Often having trouble organizing tasks and activities. Often avoiding tasks that require mental effort over a long period of time.
There is no test for ADHD. A specialist can only diagnose ADHD after making a detailed assessment. They need to collect a range of information about the child –especially from parents or carers and the child's school. For ADHD to be diagnosed, the symptoms of ADHD must be obvious in most areas of the child's life.
The struggles that can come from growing up with ADHD can harm a person's self-esteem, making it harder for her to take appropriate risks in friendships and relationships, education, careers, and the workplace. Without taking those risks there might be limited or no forward movement.
People with ADHD will have at least two or three of the following challenges: difficulty staying on task, paying attention, daydreaming or tuning out, organizational issues, and hyper-focus, which causes us to lose track of time. ADHD-ers are often highly sensitive and empathic.
