You can totally ditch your panties during your period.
If you're using tampons or a menstrual cup, it's still okay to skip underwear, says Dr. Chisholm.
During your menstrual cycle, going commando is just not practical, and it's definitely a best practice to wear some comfortable, breathable, protective underwear. UTIs, Yeast Infections, and Vaginitis are just a few of the infections that can surface after not wearing a natural, breathable pair of underwear.
Ok, going commando isn't going to stop discharge and vaginal odor completely. It's perfectly normal for you to experience the two but if you're not ventilating properly down there then an overgrowth of yeast is likely to occur which will lead to greater vaginal discharge and foul odors that nobody wants to deal with!
These people might know what they're talking about. Going commando has some surprising health benefits. Freeing your junk can allow more air circulation, lower the risk for infections, and even help with sperm production and fertility. Who needs underwear, anyway?
Going commando is healthy for your area
When you are not wearing underwear, your private area will get more ventilation. And a well-ventilated feminine area is less prone to yeast infections and other crazy stuff that happens down there, sometimes.
“Bottom line is that if you don't have a problem, you do you. If you have vulvar irritation, recurrent yeast or bacterial infections, then commando at night is the best option.” There are all kinds of finely calibrated night routines that help people decompress before bed.
IT'S NOT THE MOST HYGIENIC CHOICE
But when you skip the underwear, it can create the perfect condition in your pants for jock itch, or more formally, tinea cruris. Jock itch is a red, itchy rash that forms as a result of a fungal infection, and it can lead to painful blisters.
What Does “Going Commando” Mean? Going commando or “freeballing” means you're not wearing any underwear. Going through a day without underwear isn't a new idea. It's been going on forever, and the term “commando” was coined all the way back in the Vietnam War.
The scientists showed that male sweat contains a compound capable of lightening a woman's mood and heightening her sexual arousal. Androstadienone (CORR), a musky-smelling chemical, also speeds up blood pressure, heart rate and breathing and raises levels of the stress hormone cortisol.
Consistent with the growing evidence that emotional states can be communicated through scent, our findings provide evidence that humans can signal and process olfactory signals of sexual arousal.
“In other words, we took unknown medical risks in order to serve,” she says. If you can't avoid having your period in the field, you go prepared. Masters brings hand sanitizer and baby wipes to clean up, and trades her usual menstrual cup for tampons since they're more discreet. Pads, she says, cause chaffing.
Wearing underwear keeps that moisture close to your genitals. This allows bacteria and yeast to grow, which can cause infection and other problems. If you are prone to yeast infections, vaginal infections or vaginal irritation, going commando at bedtime could be a great—and healthy—choice.
Going Commando
Choosing to wear leggings with no underwear is totally fine and peachy. Whether you're simply more comfortable going commando at the gym, or you're low on laundry at home, there's no judgment here, soldier. Without the protective layer of undies, though, you may have to wash your leggings more often.
25 percent of those polled admitted they go sans underwear at least sometimes. Of that 25 percent, 13 percent said they do it "occasionally," 5 percent confessed they ditch their underwear "once a week" and 7 percent said they went without undergarments "all the time."
Benefits of Wearing Panties
Comfort: Panties provide a soft layer of fabric between the body and outer clothing, which can help prevent chafing and irritation. Additionally, panties that fit properly can offer support and prevent discomfort or pain caused by unsupported genitals.
If you've just shaved or waxed, Dr. Dweck suggests "cotton or nothing"—in other words, rock a breathable fabric or just go without until your skin calms down. DON'T hang out in damp clothes. It's totally okay to go commando under your workout clothes, but the usual rules about damp fabrics apply.
The results of our review and analyses are presented below. If the overall unintended pregnancy rate in the military is applied to the 198,000 active-duty women of reproductive age,5 there are an estimated 13,860 unintended pregnancies in the military each year.
Periods can intensify or become erratic during deployment. Some women report that they lose their period completely for months without apparent explanation. This can make it challenging to plan ahead and increases the risk of accidents, leaks and hassle.
Male and female soldiers are expected to sleep cot to cot under large tents that house 50 to 60 people at a time. The women usually curtain off a single-sex section in the back with sheets and ponchos.
University of Kent research suggests that men can distinguish between the scents of sexually aroused and non-aroused women. The detection of sexual arousal through smell may function as an additional channel in the communication of sexual interest and provide further verification of human sexual interest.
Aphrodisiac scents include pumpkin, lavender, vanilla, cinnamon, peppermint, ambrette, ylang-ylang, ginger, and more. Despite some skepticism around the use of aphrodisiacs, studies show that many of these aromas do work — they can be easily incorporated into anyone's fragrance routine.
