After 3 weeks, your earlobe piercing should be fine to swim, but upkeep our spray after each time in the water. Keep an eye on it, to monitor for any infections! For other ear, facial and body piercings – play it by ear and if you have any questions reach out to your local salon.
You should wait at least two weeks before swimming, and it's essential to keep the piercing clean and dry while swimming. You can use a waterproof bandage or sealant to protect the piercing if necessary.
Avoid swimming in a pool, lake or ocean for 2-3 weeks as this can increase risk of infection. If you do go swimming, try not to submerge the piercings and make sure to clean them thoroughly afterwards.
The general healing period is 6 weeks for earlobes and 12 weeks for cartilage or helix. If you have a nose piercing, 4 weeks is sufficient. Keep in mind that this period is only possible if you have no infection or nickel reaction along the way.
It is generally a good idea to wait 2 to 3 weeks after the ear piercing to go swimming. The first two weeks are when your new piercings are most susceptible to infection and swimming during this time carries some risk. Swimming in lakes or ponds is discouraged due to the high levels of bacteria in the water.
You should avoid swimming for at least 24 hours after having a piercing, and ideally until it has healed properly. While it's still healing, it's important to keep the piercing dry as there's a risk of infection.
2 Weeks Post Piercing
We recommend to avoid swimming for the first two weeks after a piercing. If you must swim, we recommend covering your piercing with a waterproof Band-Aid. Always spray with Sterilear Step 1: Clean after swimming and removing the Band-Aid. Piercings heal on the outside first and then on the inside.
Just like other piercings, there is a wait time before you can change your earrings after getting them done. This is to ensure that the piercing heals properly without any infection. After getting your earlobes pierced, the wait time is generally around 6 to 8 weeks. For cartilage piercings, it can be up to 12 weeks.
Usually, a baby's ear piercing can heal within 8-12 weeks. However, there are some cases that might even take up to six months.
Wear a wound sealing bandage over the piercing. Wear waterproof clothing over your belly button or nipple piercings – and a swimming cap to protect your ear piercings – for short periods of time. Limit the time you spend in the water to avoid submerging the piercing for too long.
For ear piercings, it is recommended to wait 6-8 weeks before attempting to change your earring. This is recommended as 6-8 weeks is the length of time that it takes for a piercing to heal.
There are different types of tissue in different parts of your ear, so how long it takes to heal depends on your body and the place you've pierced. Earlobes usually take 6-8 weeks. If you pierce the cartilage on the side of your ear, it can take 4 months to a year. Ask your piercing professional for an estimate.
Typically, ear lobe piercings take around 4-6 months, while upper or inner ear piercings take between 6-12+ months to fully heal. You'll know your ear is healed once any discharge, swelling, redness, flaking, or soreness stops.
If you take your earrings out for any length of time during the healing period, the holes may close or you may find it difficult to re-insert earrings into a piercing hole that has not fully healed.
Changing earrings too soon can increase the risk of infection, an allergic reaction and/or closure of the piercing. It is best to wait until they are fully healed.
Most side effects will subside within 3-5 days. If the pain lasts for over a week, it might be a sign that your new ear piercings are infected. Contact your piercer or a medical professional immediately if you suspect an ear piercing infection.
“The initial healing time for a helix piercing is two to four months. For the piercing to be fully healed, it takes six to nine months.
Your sweat is sterile to you, so shower like you normally do and clean the piercing afterwards with saline or sterile wound wash. Do not swim in rivers, lakes, hot tubs, pools, or oceans until your piercing is healed.
It can take anything form a few weeks to a year to fully heal from general piercings. Large gauge piercings (i.e. those where piercings have been stretched) require surgical closure.
On average, the expected healing time for a lobe piercing is six weeks, but some people's lobe piercings will heal within a month, while others may take as long as eight weeks.
Wait at least 2 months, while following the proper after-care protocols, to start sleeping on the side of a tragus piercing. Avoid using earphones or earbuds during the first 1-2 months after getting your tragus pierced. They can irritate the area and potentially cause an infection.
