They'll still be able to see the comment, and they won't be able to tell that you've hidden it.
Hiding the Facebook comment will keep it hidden from everyone except that person and their friends. They won't know that the comment is hidden, so you can avoid potential fallout. Deleting the Facebook comment will erase it; no one will be able to see it.

Blocked Users
When you put someone on your block list, even if this person was on your friend list, that user's entire profile becomes hidden from you. The user is also not visible in searches and you won't see this user's posts on a mutual friend's Wall.

Just click on the three dots on the upper-right of the entry. You can hide that specific post, or “snooze” the person who put up the post for 30 days. You can also unfollow the person, which means that you will no longer see their entries on your timeline, but you will not be unfriending them.
