In Kansas City, Missouri, police found in 2010 the dealing of blue colored methamphetamine that seemed to be inspired by Walter White's meth. A 27-year-old man, Jason Hart, was found guilty of strangling his girlfriend to death, and then used sulfuric acid in a plastic tub to dispose of the body.
Over the years, Gilligan has cited cinematic masterpieces such as The Treasure of Sierra Madre and Once Upon a Time in the West as sources of inspiration, but Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather is probably the most significant influence on Breaking Bad.

Hank Is The Hero
Breaking Bad is one of the rare series that features a villain as a protagonist. Whereas Walt is evil, Hank is good. For all intents and purposes, he is the hero of the show.
Through the decisions of Walt, Jesse, and various ancillary characters, Breaking Bad promotes a feminist ethic of care over the violent, patriarchal empire-building of the past.
'Tread lightly. ' "If that's true — if you don't know who I am — then maybe your best course is to tread lightly." The Internet nearly exploded when Walt said the now-famous line, as fans tweeted up a storm.
The chemistry in the show is basically accurate and is described in quite some detail. At first, Walter pursues a synthetic method starting from pseudoephedrine, a substance that can be extracted from some commercial cold remedies.

There's good reason the episode proved so memorable too, as co-creator Dan Harmon cites a famous Breaking Bad episode as inspiration.

Walter became dangerous once he developed his alter ego, Heisenberg. Certainly Gus underestimated him as a threat. But Walter spent most of his life as benign—he needed to develop cancer to feel his anger at lost opportunities. Walt was dangerous as Heisenberg when he felt thwarted and desperate.
Simple, complicated, it doesn't matter. Steps never change, and I know every step.

Jesse calls Walter "Walt" for the first of only two times in the series run. All the other times Walt is referred to by Jesse as "Mr. White."
Breaking Bad flagrantly failed the Bechdel Test of decently written women in fiction. The rules of the Bechdel Test are simple: have two women characters, who talk to each other, talking about something other than a man.
Throughout the series, Marie is almost always shown wearing the color purple, which creator Vince Gilligan explained is symbolic of her being misled; for example, Walt and Skyler were deluding Marie about who was behind the drug business.

The only episode of Breaking Bad's tenure to receive lower than an 8 on IMDb, "Fly" has always been controversial. Filmed as a bottle episode to save on budget, it revolves solely around Jesse and Walt trying to rid their laboratory of a single fly that risks contaminating their supply.
