She explained to Hans that Elsa froze her heart and only an act of true love could save her from the curse. However, just as the two were about to kiss, Hans revealed that he never truly loved Anna and was using her as a tool to usurp Arendelle.
According to Jennifer Lee, Anna is 18 years old in the film, while both Elsa and Kristoff are 21 years old and Hans is 23 years old.
Due to a combination of Elsa maintaining her distance from others and Anna's desperation for love, Hans decided to marry Anna in lieu of her sister and plotted to kill Elsa afterwards to assume Arendelle's throne.
When he first meets Anna, before knowing who she is, they sort of sink into each other's eyes. So Hans does find Anna genuinely attractive - at first. However, when he gets to know her better his opinion changes, very dramatically so.
Although he is portrayed as honest and noble throughout most of the film, he is later revealed to be deceptive, calculating, and cruel in nature. Hans' villainy is a plot twist in Frozen, revealed in the film's final act.

Smiling malevolently, Hans revealed to Anna that he had no intention of saving her. Alone with Hans, Anna explained that she had been struck by Elsa's magic, elaborating that the magic had froze her heart and could only be remedied by an act of true love.
The only explanation is that Prince Hans, the first time we see him, is a good guy, but somewhere in the course of the movie, the Trolls magically manipulated him into becoming a bad guy.

Elsa from Frozen was originally intended to be an evil queen with an army of snow monsters. That's according to the animated film's producer Peter Del Vecho, who says they completely re-wrote the ending.
Elsa and Anna journey to the Enchanted Forest, where they discover that the mysterious figure that saved Agnarr was actually Iduna.
But Hans merely mocked Anna, saying that she was no match for Elsa, and with complete conviction in the success of his plans, he departed the room and locked the door, leaving Anna to freeze to death. As he feigned grief over Anna's death, Hans sentenced Elsa to death for treason.

At various times in the novel we've seen seemingly inconsequential acts result in characters avoiding death. Hans, for instance, was saved by Erik Vandenburg, who spared him from the battle that killed Hans's platoon by volunteering him to write letters.
Words also played a role in saving Hans's life; by writing letters, he was able to avoid battle. Hans's sense of loyalty and fairness is apparent in how he learns early on that he must keep up the facade of wanting to join the Nazi Party while doing what he can to act according to his true beliefs.
