While delivering a scathing monologue to the drug bosses down in the high-tech meth lab that Walt and Jesse will eventually use in “Breaking Bad,” Gus turns out the lights, grabs a gun and fires the clip at Lalo. When the lights turn back on, we see Lalo choking on his own blood from a fatal neck wound.
Lalo Salamanca had already been keeping tabs on Gus Fring, hoping to find proof the Chicken Man was no "friend of the cartel." Lalo caught Werner Ziegler's scent, and briefly spoke with the German architect by masquerading as one of Fring's men.

In the lab, Lalo prepares to kill Gus, but Gus cuts power to the lights and kills Lalo with a gun he had hidden there earlier. Mike buries Lalo and Howard beneath the floor of the lab and tells Jimmy and Kim they will not see Lalo again.

Sure enough, the final portion of “Black and Blue” reveals that Lalo really has gone to Germany to investigate what Gus is up to. Instead of visiting Madrigal Electromotive, however, Lalo follows the one lead he has: Werner Ziegler.
Lalo was revealed to be in Germany, using the name Ben, to further investigate the construction of Gus' lab. He tracked down Werner Ziegler's widow Margarethe and broke into her home while she was away, noticing a measuring ruler encased in glass.

In "Hermanos", Eladio says that when he ordered Max killed, he spared Gus because of his unstated but apparently powerful connection to Chile.
Season 4. He suffocated Arturo Colon to death with a plastic bag to intimidate Nacho Varga while forcing him to be Gus' spy in the Cartel.
He further says that Werner's wife has been told that he has been killed in a construction accident and has been compensated, and that Mike will continue to be paid a retainer. Mike, disgusted at the whole situation, tells Gus to keep his retainer and leaves ("Magic Man").
Season 5. The hitmen are hired by Gustavo Fring through a middle man to assassinate Lalo Salamanca once he returns home to Mexico. With the reluctant assistance of Nacho Varga opening the back gate, the men gain access to Lalo's home, killing his staff.
Lalo wipes out the entire hit squad all on his own, hunting them inside his own house and ultimately gunning them down in his escape tunnel. Mook Promotion: Lalo brings Nacho with him to Mexico so he can get acquainted with Eladio as their connection North of the border. Mike even says it's Lalo's way to promote Nacho.
Up to this point, Gus is portrayed as the smartest person on the show, matched only by Walter White in Breaking Bad. In spite of this, Lalo is able to believably outmaneuver him at nearly every turn.
Lalo easily takes out the guards and could easily kill Gus immediately, but he makes a crucial mistake: he underestimates Gus.
Lalo is as cold-hearted and evil as the other Salamancas yet he is the most loved by the audience.
Gus kept the hidden gun secret even from Mike because he knew that waiting for Lalo alone would be the cleanest way to handle the problem. Meanwhile, Lalo thought he was being sneaky by spying on Gus' operation from the sewers - not knowing that he was actually walking into a trap.
Gaff fires some shots at Gus' path in order to intimidate him. Gus walks right at him and, for his bravery, gives Gaff no satisfaction. Gaff ends the attack and leaves ("Bug").
Nacho Varga was one of Lalo's most trusted lieutenants, but he betrayed Lalo by working with the DEA to take down the Juárez Cartel.
