Reilly pointed out, “Rip also doesn't know she was pregnant with his child.”
Beth's Secret Could Lead To A Rift Between Rip & John
While Beth later revealed this to John, she hasn't told Rip the truth about her feud with Jamie. The duo got married during Yellowstone season 4, where she made it clear they could never have children of their own.
While she is scared that it may damage her relationship with Rip, Beth does tell him about her being sterile.
When Beth was a teenager, she got pregnant. She sought help from Jamie, who assisted her efforts to get an abortion. But, in order to keep the pregnancy from leaking to the press and embarrassing the family, Jamie took Beth to a free clinic on a Reservation, where sterilization was mandatory with abortions.
As a teenager, Beth got pregnant with Rip's baby and asked Jamie for help. Without telling her, he took her to a native American abortion clinic that required sterilization as part of the process.
Rip assures her that the fact she can't have children doesn't change how he feels about her. What is this? While Beth tells Rip she is not able to have children, she does not go into detail. Beth does not mention that she was pregnant with Rip's baby and that Jamie agreed to her sterilization without her knowledge.
The third season episode titled 'Cowboys and Dreamers' shows how Beth was about fifteen years old when she became pregnant. Beth was hooking up with Rip at that time and it is implied that the baby was his. She wasn't very sure of how her father would react so she reaches out to her brother, Jamie, for help.
She adopted a son (Carter) after finally marrying Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) in season four. Rip and Beth have always had a rocky, toxic relationship. Now, tasked with the immense responsibilities of being parents for the first time, many audience members feel like they are failing, and badly.
Beth's mother unfairly blamed Beth for the horse bucking and then falling on the mother, and Beth, in turn, has always blamed herself for her mother's death. “I actually think that Jamie blames Beth for the death of their mother — so does Beth, blame herself,” explains Reilly.
After Jamie learned about his adoption, he asked Kayce for a favor, saying, “I need some advice, brother… If I can still call you that.” Kayce replies to him, “Until the day you die, you better never call me anything else.” This implies that Kayce had an inkling about the adoption.
One of the most notable elements of the Yellowstone series is the iconic romantic relationship between Rip and Beth. The couple was once childhood sweethearts whose feelings for each other stood the test of time and bloomed into true love. For the show's past four seasons, we've enjoyed plenty of Rip and Beth moments.
She is ambushed and assaulted in her office, leaving her with bad bruising on her face. Later, a bomb goes off in her office building leaving her with bad scarring on her face and body.
Yellowstone did not show the actual moment where Beth told her father, but the truth that John learned went back to when Beth was 15 and she went to her slightly older brother Jamie for help getting an abortion.
Reilly said, “I don't smoke, so all those cigarettes are the herbal cigarettes.” She continued, “I hate them so much, and he [Taylor Sheridan] has it in the script when she's smoking, and when she takes a drag, it's all written. And so I'm trying to pitch him an idea that she gets addicted to Nicorette gum.
In "Yellowstone," we see glimpses of Beth taking on the role of confidante and caretaker for her younger brother, Kayce, as well as her father, John. This may have fostered resentment in Evelyn, who could feel threatened by Beth's usurpation of traditional maternal roles.
Beth sadly doesn't have children but this isn't a choice on her part. As Yellowstone fans will remember, Beth fell pregnant as a teen and needed an abortion. Her brother Jamie (Wes Bentley) took her to a fertility clinic on the nearby reservation for a termination.
"Going Back to Cali" (Season 3, Episode 4)
And another thing: Rip likes the sound of Beth calling him “baby.” But when he asks Beth what he should call her, they're both surprised by her answer: “wife.” She immediately recants, worrying that she's ruined everything with a single word.
Important to note is that in Season 5, “Yellowstone” subtly reveals that Jamie is five years older than Beth.
Beth doesn't understand the power of that love just yet. Eating in front of Rip, especially with him watching over her, made her feel exposed. As so many women do, when they feel defenseless, they have mannerisms that reveal that insecurity. In that moment, Beth couldn't eat without covering her mouth.
The underlying reason for John Dutton's dislike of Jamie is their differing personality and views on life. It is why they often fight, argue, and even work against each other in various stages of their life. Of course, it's also possible that John dislikes Jamie because he's adopted and not a true-blooded Dutton.
