Though Shuri may have given up her position as Wakanda's next leader, there was no indication that she surrendered her status as the new Black Panther. If anything,
However, Killmonger's words continue to haunt her, playing into the final conclusion of the film. Knowing now that she holds the powers of the Black Panther, Shuri goes to the Tribal Council to reveal her new abilities as the Black Panther and to suggest striking back at Namor.
She would finally “step out from [her] brother's shadow,” but Shuri didn't quite pass the first round of Bast the Panther God's judgment. Her focus on glory and entitlement made her unsuitable to be the next Black Panther, and yet, she was still alive!
Having achieved peace with Namor and allowed herself to truly feel, for the first time, the loss of T'Challa, new Black Panther Shuri (Letitia Wright) burns her funeral garb on a beach in Haiti, symbolizing the end of her grieving process.
As a result, there's been no movement on a third Black Panther film, but the actor is “excited” to return to Wakanda when the time comes. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Wright's Shuri is now the new Black Panther, a development that mirrors her arc in the comics.
Spoilers follow for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Drumroll, please … the new Black Panther is Shuri, T'Challa's genius younger sister played by Letitia Wright.
Shuri as the New Black Panther in the MCU
And indeed, she did. This choice not only fits with the comic book canon, but it falls in line with Marvel Studio's current era of exploring legacy heroes.
Naturally intelligent, strong, and brave, Shuri does not have any super human abilities, though she keeps herself at peak physical levels. As Black Panther, she ingests the heart-shaped herb that boosts her strength, senses, and abilities, while also wearing a Vibranium-laced costume.
The boy reveals that Toussaint is his Haitian name and his Wakandan name is T'Challa, son of T'Challa. The scene works as both a tribute to Chadwick Boseman and a means to allow for a T'Challa to continue to exist in the MCU. It also hits on the core importance of Boseman's character beyond the mantle of Black Panther.
M'Baku Is Wakanda's New King (For Now) in Wakanda Forever
Shuri decided not to appear at the crowing ceremony after choosing to ally herself with TalokanOpens in new tab. She sent M'Baku of the Jabari (Winston Duke) in her place to take the throne.
In a surprising turn of events, M'Baku becomes King of Wakanda instead of Shuri.
In the final shot before the title card, we see a new character wearing a suit of Black Panther armor, which is presumably Shuri: As keen-eyed social media users noted, the new mask bears the same dot pattern as her face does earlier in the trailer.
After the trials, like the Black Panthers before her, Shuri consumed the heart-shaped herb; this granted her enhanced speed, agility, strength, endurance and senses. Her uniform is composed of vibranium.
Unlike most other Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, which have a mid-credits scene and an end-credits scene, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever does not have two post-credits scenes and has has only one scene in the mid-credits, so there's no reason to stay until the end of the full credits.
But in his final scene, Namor reveals to his cousin Namora that his decision came from cunning more than pride. Now that he has a treaty with Wakanda, he has an ally, a nation that will help him when he returns to wage war on the surface world.
Loosely translated from Latin, it means "Empire King." As such, the line serves as a dynamic reference to the anti-hero's comics origins while also giving him an epic counter to the classic Wakandan phrase in the MCU. Related: Black Panther 2's MCU Timeline: How Long After Endgame Is It Set?
Boseman's tragic death occurred before production had begun on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and so he did not film any scenes for the movie.

But, it's revealed in the mid-credits scene that T'Challa had sent Nakia away as she was pregnant with their child, and he wanted his heir to be raised away from Wakanda.
Marvel Studios did not recast the role played by the late Chadwick Boseman in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” and industry experts say that was a smart move for the franchise.
Shortly after her introduction, she was confirmed to be the smartest character in the MCU, even more so than Tony. While she hasn't been in the franchise as long as him, she does have a long list of achievements that rivals his.
Shuri of course uses the herb herself to become the next Black Panther, but after Wakanda and Talokan call a truce, she plants her samples of the heart-shaped herb so that a new hero can take on the Black Panther title when her time is concluded.
Shawver has revealed that a romantic connection between the new Black Panther Shuri (Letitia Wright) and Talokan's ruler Namor (Tenoch Huerta Mejía) was explored in some takes. Before their epic showdown towards the end of the film, Shuri and Namor had been quite cordial with each other.
In his own family though, T'Challa will always be second to his extremely intelligent sister, Shuri (Letitia Wright).
One year after T'Challa's passing, Shuri still doesn't know what it means to be the Black Panther. But when Namor (Tenoch Huerta) threatens to destroy Wakanda, the Princess decides it's time for the nation's protector to return. And the key for Shuri to become the new Black Panther is a bracelet gifted to her by Namor.
Storm: Ororo Iqadi T'Challa (née Munroe), a member of the X-Men; she was the Black Panther's wife and Queen of Wakanda but the marriage was later annulled after Namor attacks Wakanda.
