The actor, wearing a long, bulky cape, hid his iPod to listen to music while filming the scenes in the Great Hall. The wig he had to wear to play Snape also helps him keep his headphones out of sight.
But fans of the film may be surprised to learn that all is not as it seemed with their favourite characters in the Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint were in fact played by “very small adults” wearing wigs for parts of the film, Alan Rickman has revealed.
And no role of Rickman's was in more jeopardy from the illness than Severus Snape, the Potions professor in the “Harry Potter” franchise. Rickman was first diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer in 2005, shortly before production started on “Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix.
He has a great sense of humour, is a well-developed character as well as being talented and dedicated. I also think part of his appeal for many is the whole double agent thing; there's a certain kind of romance in it after all. Simply put: they see themselves in Snape.
Not all fun
Unfortunately, according to the now-public diary from the actor himself, Rickman was definitely not happy during his time filming "Harry Potter." This was largely in part due to his struggle with prostate cancer, which he was diagnosed with in 2005.
Although Snape may not have projected his memory of James onto Harry, he still would have been predisposed to dislike him by virtue of him being James Potter's son. Harry being in Slytherin would not have changed this fact.
"Snape is all grey. You can't make him a saint: he was vindictive & bullying.
He is an exceptionally skilled wizard whose extremely cold and resentful exterior conceals deep emotions and anguish. A Professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Snape is hostile to Harry due to his resemblance to his father James Potter, who bullied Snape during their time together at Hogwarts.
Now, as firmly established, Snape was not the greatest fan of Harry, but that didn't mean that he ever stopped loving Lily. Dumbledore was surprised that Snape seemed to care for the boy.
He was a grey character, but he despised Harry, the boy who hated him back, never showed any kindness towards him. Draco was ultimately, and always would be, his favorite.
“Working with him at such a formative age was incredibly important, and I will carry the lessons he taught me for the rest of my life and career.” Radcliffe concluded: “Film sets and theatre stages are all far poorer for the loss of this great actor and man.”
In 2016, Rowling clarified on Twitter what she had told Rickman in order to give him a more nuanced understanding of his character: the meaning of the word "always," which Snape says after Dumbledore asks him if he still loves Lily Potter "after all this time." The special paid subtle tribute to Rickman, who died in ...
Alan Rickman Wanted To Quit Harry Potter Franchise
Believing that the character was nothing more than “an unchanging costume”, the actor even confessed feeling detached and demotivated to play the role, during a special feature commemorating the conclusion of the Harry Potter franchise in 2011.
Bellatrix Lestrange – played by Helena Bonham Carter – wore one of the most expensive wigs. All the wigs were made with human hair and knotted strand by strand.
Actor Tom Felton had his naturally brown hair dyed on a weekly basis to maintain Draco's white-silver locks while shooting. Only in one film, out of the whole series, did he opt for wearing a wig.
We also meet Tom Riddle, who is, as it turns out, the heir of Slytherin. Present only in spirit, he has all the same been controlling Ginny, and having her act as Slytherin's heir. We also meet the Monster of the Chamber, a basilisk.
Draco Malfoy's mother Narcissa was cold, cunning and devoted to the Dark Lord. But she was also a mother, which meant she was willing to risk everything to make sure her son was safe. When Harry survived Voldemort's Killing Curse for the second time, Narcissa pretended he was dead so she could get to Draco.
"Lily! After all this time?" he asked and "Always," replied Snape. Snape having the same Patronus, the doe, as Lily symbolized his everlasting love and unwavering devotion towards her. He hadn't stopped loving her after their last altercation, marriage to James Potter, or death.
He doesn't trust Snape as Dumbledore does, but he believes that he can detect any disloyalty. Moreover, Voldemort regards Snape as highly intelligent and therefore ' as a true Slytherin ' a person whose top priority is to take care of himself. To his twisted mind, selfless equals stupid.
Snape also showed some care for his student, as when someone called Hermione a "mudblood", he demanded that the word not be used. Through it all, Hermione seems to care for Severus or at least show him empathy - as she was shocked and cried when he died - despite not knowing at that moment that he was on their side.
Dumbledore reveals how thoroughly he loves Harry. Harry is brave, and Dumbledore is proud as any father would be. More than that, Dumbledore succumbs to a parent's weakness; he cares more about Harry's happiness and wellbeing than the wizarding world he is trying to protect.
Most probably not. Snape's hatred of Harry came from having to see James's face every day and Lily's eyes behind his glasses. Harry would've been a constant reminder of the love Snape lost, and I believe it would've been more painful if he was in Slytherin because they'd have to see each other more.
Despite all the access Snape has to Harry's mind, their mutual hatred colors the information Snape receives and makes him resistant to facts that don't confirm his previous beliefs.
He was a double agent, so many character details were kept a secret. His mother was a witch and his father was a Muggle, leading to the moniker "The Half-Blood Prince."
