Gellar confirmed a "steamy" kiss between her character, Daphne, and Linda Cardellini's character, Velma, which was ultimately cut. The two actresses starred in the James Gunn-scripted film alongside Matthew Lillard (Shaggy) and Freddie Prinze Jr. (Fred).
But the biggest change to the beloved mystery-solvers cartoon comes at the end of "Velma"'s second episode — when Daphne kisses Velma! Here's how it happens: The show's plot follows Velma, who loves solving mysteries because her mom was a mystery writer.

Previous “Scooby-Doo” writers and producers have said that Velma was a lesbian, but said pushback by studios would not allow them to depict her as one on screen. The new movie, which was directed by Audie Harrison, leaves no doubt as to her sexuality.

Trivia. Daphne's hair is orange because her biological mother smoked heavily while she was pregnant with her.
Mystery Incorporated, Velma is in a romantic relationship with Shaggy, much to the distaste of Scooby-Doo. Their relationship ends in "Howl of the Fright Hound" (season 1, episode 10). In Ruby and Spears' original series bible, Fred and Shaggy are each 17 years old, Daphne is 16, and Velma is 15.

Kaling, who voices Velma, also bluntly addressed the criticism of making her titular character South Asian. "Hopefully you noticed my Velma is South Asian. If people freak out about that, I don't care." As per Deadline, Mindy Kaling went on to say that if a dog can solve the crime, Velma "can be brown."
In Velma, their worlds collide again and it soon becomes apparent that they have romantic feelings for each other. At the end of episode 2, Velma and Daphne kiss. In the following episodes, they admit to being attracted to each other but decide that they should resist their feelings and become friends again instead.
