Valerie Diaz is the daughter of Sheriff Diaz and the girl Clay lost his virginity to. At a party, she flirts with Clay and later has sex with him. Afterwards, she tells her boyfriend that she hooked up with Clay which resulted in Clay beating up the guy. She's later seen attending Justin's funeral with her dad.
The episode also featured scenes from a baby shower for Clay's wife, Stella (Alona Tal). Their son, Brian, was born healthy, and Clay also worked out his differences with Sonny Quinn (A.J. Buckley) before heading out on the mission.
In the final season, Clay is in therapy after struggling with his mental health. Clay experiences blackouts and, at one point, is admitted to the psychiatric ward of a hospital after stealing a gun from a police officer and waving it around.
Although Hannah leaves explicit instructions before her suicide that Clay should listen to the tapes, she makes it clear that Clay is not one of the reasons for killing herself but rather she wanted him to know exactly why she took her own life.

Clay's most explosive dissociative action arrives in “Acceptance/Rejection,” when he sets fire to Principal Bolan's (Steven Weber) car during the LHS anti-police state protest.
