Infants who cry easily may be more easily stimulated than others. This may be a sign of higher IQ. Child development researchers explored the relationship between the crying of infants four to ten days old and their later IQ test scores.
Genetics and temperament seem to play a role in determining which children become crybabies. They are often the newborns who startle easily, have difficulty adjusting to bright lights, or seem very sensitive to the texture of clothing and diapers.
A study on “profoundly gifted” children found that a majority of them started talking early. A study on first steps found that children who started walking early were neither more intelligent nor more coordinated later on in life.
