1. White Boneless Chicken. The number one ingredient in chicken nuggets from McDonald's is 100 percent white boneless chicken breast meat. Past myths have circulated that the meat is full of byproducts, but their current recipe uses only 100 percent chicken breast.
Description and origin. The Chicken McNugget is a small piece of processed chicken meat that is fried in batter and flash-frozen at a central manufacturing facility, then shipped out and sold at McDonald's restaurants.
We only use quality 100% Australian RSPCA Approved chicken, supplied by familiar brands like Baiada and Inghams. Our signature cheese is made in Bega, NSW. In 2021 we transitioned our processed cheese to natural flavours, natural colours and no added preservatives.
All food consumed at McDonald's comply with Halal requirements.
Calorically, they're fine, and they have about as much protein as a Quarter Pounder with Cheese, and far more than a Filet-O-Fish. But McDonald's chicken sandwiches don't offer much else for you health-wise. They have barely any fiber, too much sugar, and no sandwich contains enough vegetables to constitute a serving.
They take fresh chicken pieces, coat them in a breadcrumb and spice mix then pressure fry them. So that would be as processed as a lot of stuff in your own kitchen or in a restaurant. However apart from being killed, gutted and jointed at the abattoir, the chicken is not “processed” before delivery to the restaurant.
Chicken McNuggets were first developed in the '70s by McDonald's former executive chef, René Arend, who was recipe-testing Onion Nuggets at the time. In a passing conversation in 1979, Chairman Fred Turner suggested Arend ditch onions and start working with chicken instead. Soon after, the Chicken McNugget was born.

McDonald's burgers are made of 100% ground beef, formed into hamburger patties, and then quickly frozen at our suppliers to seal in great fresh flavor. We add salt and pepper to our burgers when they are cooked on the grill at our restaurants to bring out all that great beef taste. * Weight before cooking 4 oz. (ea.)

At best, most samplings are 50% meat. Under a microscope in a study, a nugget sample was seen to only have 40% meat, and of that meat, only 19% was protein.

KFC: Unhealthiest
The unhealthiest individual menu item, however, is the chicken pot pie, which contains 790 calories, 46 grams of fat, 37 grams of saturated fat, 95 milligrams of cholesterol, and 2,120 milligrams of sodium.
At least 97% of our chicken-on-the-bone, fillets and strips are regularly delivered fresh (not frozen) into our restaurants from reputable Aussie chicken suppliers like Inghams, Steggles and Golden Farms.
First, the fillets, which apparently come out the refrigerator fresh, are dunked in a bucket of cold water. "We dip it in there because it just helps the flour adhere to the chicken," Lawson explains. Then the fillets are covered in the breading mix, and then loaded onto a rack that is lowered into a vat of hot oil.
INSIDER rounded up 10 of the least healthy menu items on the current US McDonald's menu. The worst drink or dessert you can buy is the strawberry or chocolate shake. The unhealthiest food overall is the Big Breakfast with Hotcakes.
While chicken is an obvious Men's Health staple, KFC's reliance on greasy oils and subsequent sky-high calorific content makes Maccy's an unlikely victor. The more varied menu and healthy options, as well as classic, gut-busting fare, make it the ideal spot to play fast and loose with your nutrition plan.
