Some gifted kids like to talk a lot. They love to share their knowledge with others. They are highly verbal, and may possess an advanced vocabulary for their age. When talking to students, pay attention to not only how much they talk but also to the vocabulary used in daily conversation.
Where early talking is concerned, it may be linked to giftedness. The Davidson Institute cites a study showing that among 241 “profoundly gifted” children, 91 percent started taking early. On average, they said their first words at age 9 months.
Keen observation, curiosity and tendency to ask questions. Ability to think abstractly, while showing signs of creativity and inventiveness. Early development of motor skills (e.g., balance, coordination and movement). Finds joy in discovering new interests or grasping new concepts.
There are lots of reasons kids talk too much. They may just be passionate about a topic and want to share every single detail about it. Kids may also talk nonstop if they're stressed out. They may not know how to calm themselves, so they talk and talk.
The willingness to speak loud and often is largely considered a positive trait. Research even shows that talkative kids do better in preschool. The benefits go far beyond that to grade school, secondary education, college and especially the workplace.
Children with ADHD and impulsivity issues might talk excessively because it's difficult for them to think before they speak. The adage "think before you speak" isn't easy for my child to adhere to, especially when he's excited.
Research from the National Institute of Health shows that 50 percent of intelligence comes from genetics, while the other 50 percent comes from other factors, including the child's environment. For the 50 percent that parents can control, they play a key role in supporting the cognitive development of their child.
Signs of Giftedness in Children Include:
an ability to learn and process complex information rapidly. a need to explore subjects in surprising depth. an insatiable curiosity, as demonstrated by endless questions and inquiries. ability to comprehend material several grade levels above their age peers.
Children with exceptionally high IQ scores can also have ADHD. Both of my sons qualified for the Gifted/Talented program in school based on their high intelligence test scores. Both were also given the diagnosis of ADHD.
Giftedness falls into one or more of the following areas: intellectual, academic, creative, artistic and leadership.
Most people use terms like “bright,” “gifted,” “exceptional,” “remarkable,” and “talented” interchangeably, but when a psychologist uses the term “gifted,” we're usually talking about something that is statistically quite rare. About 3 to 5 out of every 100 children could be considered gifted.
Many gifted children are highly sensitive individuals. 1 They may take things personally and become upset by words and deeds that other children may easily ignore or get over quickly.
Early Language Development
Gifted children tend to begin talking early. While most children say their first word at around 1 year of age, gifted children may begin speaking when they are 9 months old. 2 Some parents report that their children said their first word even earlier than that, as early as 6 months of age.

Researchers find that brain development peaks years later for children with the highest IQs. Smart children have a different rhythm in their heads — a seesaw pattern of growth that lags years behind other young people — say government scientists who mapped the brains of hundreds of children.
Faces that are perceived as highly intelligent are rather prolonged with a broader distance between the eyes, a larger nose, a slight upturn to the corners of the mouth, and a sharper, pointing, less rounded chin.
Research reflects that giftedness does “run in families”: for a gifted child, their genetically-related relatives — siblings and/or parents — are likely to also be gifted, though there are plenty of exceptions.
Many studies have discussed the role of such characteristics as asynchronous development, perfectionism, and hypersensitivity for vulnerability to psychological health problems (9, 10, 11, 12, 13). Research has also shown that gifted children have more fears than their typically developing peers (14).
While gifted children are capable of reading, speaking, and even reasoning above grade level, those abilities can be challenging in a number of ways. 2 For instance, gifted children can be argumentative. Adults might even remark that these children are little lawyers.
2. Emotional depth and sensitivity at a young age. Neuroscientists suggest that gifted children experience more intense emotional reactions to the world around them. For example, they may have a hard time enjoying shows where a character gets hurt or is sad.
Adults with ADHD frequently think being sociable with others is an all-or-nothing part of their lives. Either they're oversharing and talking too much, or they're withdrawn and staying home alone. Hyperactivity in adults is often expressed as being overly talkative and boisterous.
People with ADHD often do talk a lot. There are several reasons for this. With ADHD, the brain is constantly seeking stimuli. People with ADHD may talk excessively when nervous because they want to be part of the conversation, or instead of getting quieter, social anxiety may actually propel them to talk more.
Weak emotional control is a common ADHD side effect. In children, this may manifest as dysregulated yelling, indiscriminate lying, and repeating the same mistake over and over with empty apologies but no change in behavior.
