Carer Payment is if you give constant care to someone with disability, a medical condition, or an adult who's frail aged. Constant care means you provide care for a large amount of time daily. This roughly equates to a normal working day. If this care stops you from working full time, this payment could be for you.
The amount of Carer Payment you get depends on your personal circumstances. This includes any income you or your partner get from employment. The maximum amount you can get is $971.50 per fortnight. This amount can be taxable if you or the person you care for are Age Pension age.
You get an extra amount of Universal Credit called a 'carer element' if you're eligible for Carer's Allowance – even if you don't apply for Carer's Allowance.
If you're getting an eligible payment you'll get Carer Supplement between 5 July and 1 August 2023. To get Carer Supplement, you need to get an eligible payment for a period that includes 1 July. We'll pay you Carer Supplement for each eligible person you care for. You don't need to do anything to get this payment.
There will be two automatic carer payments rolling out to carers in 2023. The Child Disability Assistance Payment of $1,000 and the carer supplement of $600.
The Work Bonus income bank is useful for pensioners who wish to work, particularly those who undertake intermittent or occasional work. Note: from 1 December 2022 to 31 December 2023, a one-off, temporary credit of $4,000 applies to Work Bonus income bank balances.
Payments you can get as a carer

If you get State Pension
You cannot get the full amount of both Carer's Allowance and your State Pension at the same time. If your pension is £76.75 a week or more, you will not get a Carer's Allowance payment. If your pension is less than £76.75 a week, you'll get a Carer's Allowance payment to make up the difference.
You might be entitled to claim a carer's allowance if your caring time adds up to 35 hours per week. Remember, you don't have to be living with or related to the person you provide care for to claim the allowance.
The Government has provided two separate $750 payments to social security, veteran and other income support recipients and eligible concession card holders. Around half of those that benefit are pensioners. These payments will support households to manage the economic impact of the Coronavirus.
Carers Payment
The current maximum rate for a single person is $967.50 per fortnight, or $729.30 for a member of a couple. Constant care is defined as daily care which is the equivalent of a normal working day.
Carer Payment (CP) is made to someone providing constant care at under award wages to a person with a sufficiently severe disability in their home. The carer could be a family member or a friend, and they may or may not normally be resident in the home of the person with disability.
If you receive Carer's Allowance, you also qualify for a Christmas Bonus each year (unless you get one with another benefit).
The payment is to acknowledge the financial pressures many unpaid carers have felt during the pandemic and to help with some of extra costs they have had. The payment is for unpaid carers who care for someone at least 35 hours a week and have low incomes.
You're probably a carer if all of the following apply: you do things like helping someone to wash, dress and eat; taking them to regular appointments, doing their shopping or keeping them company.
The Carer Payment can provide you with income support if you are unable to work because of the demands of your caring role. To be eligible for the Carer Payment: You need to provide full time care over an extended period of time for a person with a disability or chronic illness, mental illness, or who is frail aged.
Carer's Allowance does not depend on national insurance contributions and is not means-tested – in other words, it is not based on your personal income or savings – but earnings may affect your entitlement. Carer's Allowance usually counts in full as income when calculating your entitlement for means-tested benefits.
If you're a pensioner currently receiving support through Centrelink, you may be eligible for extra help with bills and medicine costs through the Pension Supplement. This supplement is a combined payment of Pharmaceutical Allowance, Utilities Allowance, GST Supplement and Telephone Allowance.
You may get a Carer Allowance for each person you care for providing they meet the disability requirements and you meet the daily care requirements.
You can get the Work Bonus if both of these apply to you. You: are Age Pension age and over. get Age Pension, Carer Payment or Disability Support Pension.
The Government announced on 1 February 2022 that an aged care workforce bonus of up to $800 will be paid to eligible aged care staff in Government subsidised home care and residential care.
Carer Supplement is an annual payment of $600 for each eligible payment you get. You'll get this on top of your regular payment.
A payment to help students with the cost of moving from regional or remote areas for tertiary study. The Tertiary Access Payment (TAP) is a one off payment of up to $5,000. It's to help eligible students with the cost of moving to study. This is for study after you've finished year 12 or equivalent.
